La Pêche's music is a swinging interpretation of traditional songs from Romania, turkey and the Balkans. Comprised of saxophone, clarinet, accordion, bass and drums, the quintet's intimate yet upbeat sound is an irresistible call to dance !
To have "La Pêche" is French for being in a particularly good mood and great form ; and that's what the quintet immediately conveys with their furiously fun blend of Balkan-inspired melodies. Combining a solid foot in traditional musics with funkier grooves, the band has created a highly unique and energetic sound.
After the release of their Soundtrack to the 1904 movie "Journey Through The Impossible", composed and recorded in collaboration with emmy winning composer Dan Cantrell, the group embarked to a month long tour through the Balkans, where they were featured on National Bulgarian Radio and studied with local masters musicians. They brought back an even greater passion for traditional sounds, especially towards the very upbeat and melodically rich Romanian music, which no other band plays in the Bay Area. Yet their extensive knowledge of musics from the Balkans, Turkey and the Jewish tradition, allied with a strong artistic sense of composition make them one of the most versatile group available today.
Hired them for a surprise marriage proposal we were planning and they did a fantastic job! Highly recommend!
