Imagine tieing off your boat after a long day on the water. Its sunset and you're stepping off the boat docks and onto a patio. You hear the sounds of accoustic beach music as you order your first cocktail. You find a seat near by to hear a little more. Next thing you know, 3 hours have passed and your perfect day, just became even better. Benny Edwards captures the ambiance of being on the water regardless of the environment. Having grown up on Lake Michigan, it isn't hard for him to transport himself and his audience to a place with warm sand and a gentle breeze. Benny plays a wide variety of both covers and orginals, and each song has it's own unique style that is pleasant to the ear and condusive to the surroundings.
A Michigan native currently living in the Detroit area, born and raised in Traverse City, Benny was exposed to music at a very young age and became an avid singer and performer. He began his professional music career at 15 when he was hired as a "singing busboy" at Dill's Olde Towne Saloon where he was seen singing with Laith Al-Saadi, Justin Avery, and David Luther. Before graduating from Traverse City Senior High, Benny spent two years with John and Tina Reynolds and their company, In-Motion Productions. Benny attended Michigan State University where he received scholarships in both music and creative arts. While at MSU, Benny spent a lot of time in the Theater Department which earned him leading roles in Evita, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, and The Mikado. Also at MSU, he sang in the elite acappella group on campus, The Spartan Dischords. In 2001, Benny continued his professional music career playing in local bars and restaurants in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina. There he wrote, arranged and produced his first album, The Way Home, which debuted in 2004 and can be purchase on iTunes. Upon returning to Michigan, Benny began using his music to help local communities drive new business into their downtown areas. His most recent project is The Flamingo Incident, which is a non-profit group of musicians that put on concerts to generate money for cancer. From Traverse City to Raleigh to Nashville to Detroit, Benny continues to blend his smooth soulful voice with his unique guitar style leaving his audiences wanting more.
