The Upstate Bagpipers are champion bagpipers from the Capital Region of New York. Together we have thousands of hours of experience playing at Weddings, Funerals, Parties, and countless other special events. When you book with us you are guaranteed a champion bagpiper, period. Don't settle for hobbyists. Make sure to get the best.

Founding members Andrew Douglas, Carl Donley, and Michael Eagle have years of performing experience and competitive accolades. All three are champions in their instrument, including top prizes at the world championships in Scotland.

When you book a piper, be sure to consider the appearance AND the sound of the performer. As we're sure you already know - the unfortunate reality is that many bagpipers really do fit a negative stereotype of looking decent but sounding awful! The great thing about booking with us is that you're sure to get a world-class piper. It's not to say you can't find a good piper elsewhere, but with us it's easy (and guaranteed).

More about Andrew Douglas:

Andrew Douglas, of Albany, NY, grew up in the Syracuse area where he learned the basics of piping from his father, Bruce. Through his involvement with the renowned Mohawk Valley Frasers Pipe Band, Andrew met Donald Lindsay, who is still his teacher and mentor to this day. With Donald's help and guidance, not only was he able to play with Oran Mor during its formative years, but he also had the opportunity to study with Jim McGillivray, Jack Lee, Alasdair Gillies, and other prominent pipers on the world scene.

Andrew became a professional level piper at only 16-years-old. He has since taken 5 prizes in the Silver Medal in Scotland and won the B grade Strathspey and Reel contest at Oban. At 17, he temporarily left Oran Mor to play with the six-time World Champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band. He performed with the band from 2002 to 2007 and can be heard on their live albums “On Home Ground Vol. I and II.” His 8-part signature composition, The Hourglass Suite was performed on Vol. II. As a student at SFU, Mr. Douglas earned his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts majoring in Contemporary Music while studying with in?uential Canadian composers such as Barry Truax, Owen Underhill and David MacIntyre.

More about Michael Eagle:

Michael Eagle is a World Champion Scottish and Breton percussionist who operates between Albany, NY and Brooklyn as an independent musician, educator, composer, clinician, manager, and consultant. Mr. Eagle has performed all over the US as well as Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean Islands, Scotland, England, France, China, and South Korea. Michael's diverse performance career spans many genres including orchestral, chamber, solo marimba, Scottish pipe band, Breton Bagad, Irish session, West African drumming, Middle Eastern music, steel pan, ancient American drumming, contemporary American drumming, rock, pop, fusion, and music theater.

Michael is the Drum Sergeant and Lead Drummer for the Grade I Oran Mor Pipe Band from Albany, NY. His responsibilities include writing for the entire drum corps as well as assisting in the overall organization and direction of the band in preparation for the 2013 competition season which includes the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. Michael is also a Section Leader for GEI , who facilitates professional drumline services for the New York Knicks NBA and New York Giants NFL teams.

More about Carl Donley:

Carl Donley is a 23-year-old Grade 1 Piper who hails originally from Chicago. He has been playing for 16 years and has taken numerous prizes in solos through his rise to Grade 1. Carl got his pipe band start with the Ft. Lauderdale Highlanders in south Florida, and also played in the Grade 2 Chicago Midlothian Scottish Pipe Band during high school, before joining The Oran Mor Pipe Band in 2008. In addition to playing in Oran Mor, Carl was the Pipe Major of The Iona College Pipe Band during his four years at Iona College. He now resides in the Albany area where he is the Chief Operating Officer at The Piper's Dojo LCC and Dojo University. My fiance's family is from Scotland so we wanted to have a bagpiper for our wedding ceremony. Working with Carl was a breeze, and we coordinated solely through email! We told him the songs we were thinking of (all of which he already knew; he has quite a repertoire!) he showed up early and played as our guests were arriving. It was so exciting to hear it as we were walking in and out, and several of our guests mentioned that it was an awesome addition to the ceremony. Thank you, Carl! :) -Bethany and Ian
