ABOUT THE TROPICS
The TROPICS feature Shoreline Schools Music Teacher and Bandleader GREG BOEHME (Bay-me) on Lead Vocals, Saxophone, Flute, Guitar and Keyboards. Greg grew up in Port Orchard, Washington and taught Band, Jazz Ensemble, AP Music, Recording Arts and Guitar & Piano Lab at Shoreline's Shorecrest High School. He has introduced thousands of Shoreline students to the joys of Band and Orchestra. In his early years Greg toured the U.S. in various bands and earned his BA at Western Washington University and his Masters Degree at the University of Washington. A few years later Greg was judged one of "Seattle's Ten Best Artists" for his local radio hit "Love Be Kind". Since then he has combined sailing with song-writing and musical pursuits logging 20,000 "blue-water" miles at sea. In recent years Greg has entertained the Northwest sailing community with films and tales of adventure in the South Pacific (some of them true).
Lead Vocalist NICOLE (Nikki) COLEMAN began singing in her hometown Southern Baptist Church, learning to harmonize with the congregation and soon developed what would become a life-long passion for music. During her teens years in Arizona Nikki began to perform at private parties and weddings. Since then she has studied advanced Vocal Technique with acclaimed vocal teacher Robert Lunte and continued Voice and Performance studies with powerhouse soul-singer/ songwriter Keely Whitney. During the last decade Nikki's refined, versatile voice has been "in demand" among Northwest recording studios and her dazzling vocals have been showcased in a variety Seattle Area groups that include The BrickHouse Show Band, DoveLand and The Keely Whitney Band. Nikkii has performed at many of the top venues in Alaska, Oregon and Washington State.
For 30 years guitarist CHAD QUIST has been a full-time professional on the West Coast music scene. He is equally at home as a touring guy, session guitarist, producer, engineer and vocalist. After growing up in the Bay Area, Chad attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied Music Theory, Composition and Guitar Performance. Soon after, he relocated to Seattle and became involved with top local acts playing Rock, Pop, Country, Fusion and Jazz and performing with Kenny G, The Platters and Martha and the Vandellas. These experiences led to gigs opening shows for artists like Ray Charles, Tower Of Power, George Benson, Steve Miller, Lou Rawls, Huey Lewis and Diana Ross. In 1995 Chad began a decade-long association with MUZAK appearing on nearly 1000 cover tunes on their Environmental Channel with more than 30 of his original compositions on worldwide rotation. In 1997 Chad landed a spot with Big Brother and the Holding Company (of Janis Joplin fame). In 2007 after his soon-to-be stepson became a Top-Ten AMERICAN IDOL sensation, Chad spent 10 years in LA. Subsequent tours with Big Brother, Glenn Yarbrough and other top groups brought him to Europe, Thailand, Beijing, Honk Kong, Hawaii and Mexico performing on bills with Vanilla Fudge, Jefferson Starship, and Booker T and the MG's. In addition to a demanding performance schedule Chad has travelled in Africa playing with the Paul Allen Band and produced CDs for a number of independent artists, some of whom have been picked up by Disney and ABC Television.
