Jazz and contemporary vocalist/pianist (can be hired for one or the other or both). Repertoire includes jazz standards and classics, pop and contemporary music, light classical, and original music upon request. Past experience includes club dates, corporate events, birthday parties, weddings and receptions, christenings, and festivals. Lauren Lee is an active performing musician based in New York City. Having moved from St. Louis, MO in 2009, Lauren has been making a name for herself in the contemporary jazz scene in New York. She is a 2011 graduate of the NYU Steinhardt Master of Music program in Jazz Studies, where she studied with Gil Goldstein, Ralph Lalama, Brian Lynch, and Kenny Werner. Her voice as a composer is equal parts innovation and tradition, taking influence from rock and pop musicians like Bjork and David Bowie, while using harmony by jazz innovators like John Coltrane. She released her debut EP, "Makebeliever" in 2014 with her "Space Jazz" Trio, featuring Charley Sabatino on bass and Andy O'Neill on drums. Also active in the avant garde and free jazz communities, her vocal/bass duo project "Velocity" released its debut album in March 2015 and will be touring Europe in August of 2015. Lauren's background consists of classical training for both piano and vocals as well as years of musical theatre. Her diverse interests come forward both in her song choice and original compositions.
