I started studying singing at an early age with a terrific British pop/jazz singer and my love for standards and musicals began along with my comfort level singing with bands and with a microphone. Fast forward quite a few years, and I've had the joy and privilege to hone my craft as an accomplished opera singer while expanding my repertoire even further. My versatile technique gives me the opportunity to span many genres from musical theatre, American Songbook, jazz standards, religious music, opera and music for the Holiday season. My Italian heritage infuses my love for beloved Italian and Neapolitan songs and my cross-cultural experience singing internationally, gives me an authentic view and pulse on creating the next program for you! I sing in multiple languages and have a repertoire of over 100 songs and counting! I offer 30-minute free consults to discuss your music ideas and guide your program choices. With Love xx Raffaella MY STORY: Born and raised in South Africa, Italian-American mezzo-soprano, Raffaella Lo Castro moved to the United States to pursue her music career after a fortuitous meeting and opportunity to sing for the late Ms. Kathleen Cassello who was on tour in South Africa as one of the Three Sopranos and who was touring with the late Pavarotti. Surrounded by musical influences (Raffaella's father was a violinist in Milan), she discovered her love for singing and pursued her vocal studies in the U.S. Now she looks forward to creating the perfect, memorable musical occasion for YOU! Her musical style and influences span OPERA, MUSICAL THEATRE, JAZZ STANDARDS, RELIGIOUS MUSIC, CLASSICAL CROSS-OVER, ITALIAN MUSIC and more. BACKGROUND AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Raffaella has appeared on many concert stages with leading orchestras and has given solo recitals in South Africa, and appeared in recital in Singapore and Hiroshima, Japan. In the U.S., solo appearances include Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. and New York City. Recently, Raffaella was part of the esteemed Philadelphia Chorale as part of ANDREA BOCELLI'S World Tour in the US (Philly & NY) in 2021 and 2022. She will join the World Tour again in 2023 with two additional performances in New York's Madison Square Garden. She made her SOLO DEBUT in BEETHOVEN'S Symphony no. 9 at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia with VoxAmaDeus. Raffaella also made her debut with the Wayne Oratorio Society in Elijah which was performed and recorded at The NATIONAL CATHEDRAL in Washington, D.C. and is available on her YouTube channel. This December, she will join the group again for Handel's Messiah as alto soloist. On stage, Raffaella has played exciting operatic and musical theatre characters with notable opera companies all of which have influenced her singing style, elegance, expression, captivating communicative ability and exciting variety in all she offers. It is typical for her shows to go from rich opera arias, to soulful, lush ballads given the warmth of the lower register of her voice. Raffaella is also featured on TWO world premiere recordings (Randall Thompson's Requiem, Philadelphia Singers, Naxos Records) and originated a new operatic role in the all-female chamber opera, "Girondines" about the lives of six real-life French revolutionary women (debut performance and world premiere original recording). Raffaella has had the privilege of working with world-renowned teachers and coaches in the United States. In South Africa, her first teacher at an early age was Eve Boswell who had a successful career as a pop singer in Britain. Her appreciation and discipline for the art form of singing is obvious in the way she is dedicated to her clients and the customized programs she creates for them.
