Kayla Scott is an accomplished vocalist born and raised in NYC. Kayla covers a range of styles from pop to broadway to r&b to jazz and is available for weddings, parties, bands, studio or session work, and more!
New York native Kayla Scott, 25, is a vocalist. With roots based in jazz, pop and soul, her sound is unlike most with an incredible range, passion, and depth which she utilizes to showcase her versatility.
Born October 25th, 1987, Kayla began studying dance at the age of three. She spent 11 years learning the likes of ballet, tap, theater, modern, and jazz/lyrical. While mostly taking private instruction, she also got the chance to take classes at the prestigious American Ballet Academy and to perform at the Lincoln Center New York City Ballet at age eleven. Meanwhile, she also focused on her acting training and studied improvisation, comedy and classical theater. She took classes at the Lee Strassberg Theater Institute, and was a part of several regional and community theater productions. Although she loves being a triple threat and continued to dabble in all three aspects of entertaining, her first priority was always her music.
Over the years Kayla has studied voice with the likes of Samuel McKelton (Opera), Jacqueline Presti (Broadway/Studio), Gwendolyn Carter (Choral Studies), Norma Garbo (Club Date Training/Pop/Rock/Jazz), Amy London, Joan Stiles, Kate Baker (Jazz), Junior Mance (Blues), Carmen Lundy, Kate Kelly (Opera) and various others. She has been involved with such groups as the Queens Oratorio Society, The Treble Singers, NY Singers Forum, and various school choirs. She began her Undergraduate Studies at the New School Universitys' Jazz and Contemporary Music program in January 2006.
Kayla loves to just sit back and listen to music that influences her. Such incomparable greats such as Ella Fitzgerald, Mariah Carey, Nancy Wilson, and Stevie Wonder have given Kayla such inspiration. In her free time, you'll probably find Kayla out a karaoke bar singing her heart out.
"All I want is for my music to reach out to people. For me, the satisfaction is not fame. It is in knowing that I made someone smile. Music is, after all, what keeps me smiling..." - says Kayla. "...Maybe one day music will be just about music again. I hope that I can be a part of that."
Currently as of April 2011, Kayla is the lead female singer for the amazing "Current Affair Music", former New York wedding/corporate band of American Idol Season 10 finalist Pia Toscano. You can visit Current Affair's website for event booking information:
She freelances with other New York/Tri-State area club date offices and also teaches voice privately. Recording a full length studio album is her next task. She has been working on some new music with some notable producers and there will definitely be more to come for this rising star.
This year alone, Kayla has had the opportunity to record backing vocals on two independent artists debut albums, sing the National Anthem for the Merrell Down and Dirty National Mud Run & Obstacle Course Event (presented by Subaru and Paul Mitchell), soon will be singing for the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden opening the 2nd home game with the national anthem, will be recording a National anti-bullying song for one of the most recognized companies for this cause in the country and is constantly busy working - gigging at various locations and not to forget, teaching lessons in Manhattan.
