Dottie Dot's Bio
Rita was drawn to clowning by her dedication to kids. As a mother, she adored her own children so much, she wanted to nurture delight and achievement in others. For 8 years she had a day care where she interacted with the children instead of just setting them in a swing. Her goal was to help the children feel secure before their parents came, and to engage her guests with interesting activities.
As a clown, she cultivates smiles, creates precious memories, and helps the children feel exceptional. Dottie Dot reaches this last goal by having many helpers, giving lots of children a place in the spotlight. In her years of clowning, Dottie Dot has shared smiles and laughter all around the community. She is experienced from birthdays, holiday celebrations, corporate events, and city gatherings.
How did Rita translate her desire to help children feel special into a career as Dottie Dot? In a word, education. When you hire Rita for your party, you have an entertainer who studied the art of clowning in classes taught by other clowns.
That's right, her teachers were clowns. You might expect a clown to be self-taught; yet, why would you want a self-taught clown? Would you want a self-taught dentist drilling your teeth? A self-taught plumber fixing a clogged toilet? If not, why have a self-taught clown? To make your birthday and event memories precious, Rita joined Kapitol Klowns™ in 2008. Kapitol Klowns™ (Alley #6) is a 44 years old, based in the Gaithersburg/Washington D.C. area, and the second oldest Alley in the U.S.
From 2008-2010 Rita was an apprentice in this performing art. In 2010, Rita was graduated to professional Clown, after learning about clown make-up, clown costuming, elements and styles of comedy, along with the history of clowning as a diverse entertainment art form. All of this went into creating the friendly, lovable character Dottie Dot.
After 2010, Dottie Dot participated in the Cherry Blossom parade and the St. Patrick's Day parade in Washington, D.C.; the Thanksgiving Day parade in Silver Spring; and smaller parades in Gaithersburg. She also performed at various fairs and festivals, using what she learned. adding laughs to every event! In fact, she was the Clown Entertainer at the Howard County fair for 2013!
Since graduation, Dottie Dot continues to attend monthly meetings at Kapitol Klowns™, and is enrolled at Clowns of America International. Rita goes to conventions to learn more about clowning, face paints, balloons, and delighting audiences. Through all these years - performances - classes - and happy moments - Rita has remained dedicated to helping children find a brilliant side which makes them special. Working steadily to elevate others makes Dottie Dot special. More than working to earn a fee, she tries to make a friend.
