The Annie Hawkins Band Live Band from Tucson, AZ

The Annie Hawkins Band stormed the local clubs in Tucson, AZ winning rave reviews in their first year of performing. The local audiences voted The Annie Hawkins Band, 'Best Pop Band' and 'Best Acoustic Guitarist' at the 1998 Tucson Area Music Awards. Valerie Polhaus from Flagstaff Live wrote, 'This is a band that has done it right the first time around. ...Hawkins' peppery guitar strums throughout the CD, tempered with the perfected Elvis Costello waver (truly heartbreaking).' They have been invited to three music showcases, LMNOP '99, EAT'M '99 and NXNE '99. The band has played throughout the western states at clubs, hotels, resorts and college campuses Annie Hawkins fronts the band with her genius for writing songs and melodies in tragic- comedic pathos. After moving back to Tucson from New York, she founded a strong new band with Brandon Gonzales and Davie Murray. The Band's material is redolent of the late 60's and early 70's. There's something universal in their sound that is at once compelling both to those audiences that remember those years and to those that don't. It's a sound that stirs, that rouses listeners from dormancy and lethargy, due to the commotion and tumult in her sets. THE MUSIC Annie Hawkins performs eclectic alternative rock music with exposed secrets and vulnerable energy. She is compared with a range of artists from Joni Mitchell, Ani Difranco, Led Zepplin, Kate Bush and Dave Matthews. Annie earned her Bachelor's degree of Music, majoring in Jazz Studies, at the University of Arizona. She also studied at Berklee College of Music and under Pete Rogine, a jazz guitarist in New York. Davie and Brandon complement and round out the music compositions by their individual artistry; Davie with brilliant melodic and textural drum rhythms and Brandon with chordal bass playing giving the band a larger sound than 'a trio.'
