What do The Beatles, Herbie Hancock, Bob Dylan, and Steely Dan have in common? One of our sets! How about Eagles, Bob Marley, James Brown, Billie Holliday, Blood Sweat & Tears, and Van Morrison? Yep! The Fat Fridays play listening music for dancing. Or just for listening! The musicianship is top-notch; all are vocalists, soloists, lifelong veterans of stage and studio. The music ranges from classic pop to original, from acoustic-electric jazz to kickass rock, all with a rock-solid foundation. Their repertoire is heavily seeded with 60s and 70s pop music. Sure, they play hits, including tribute-band-quality covers, but they also like to delight audiences with songs they haven't heard a million times, plus "derangements" of popular classics (like reggae Neil Diamond), forgotten gems, and dynamic originals. The band can entertain a crowd of discerning listeners or keep a dance floor busy for hours. They can play mixed sets of acoustic and electric, blues, rock, and jazz. They have the chops, the sensibilities, and the repertoire to entertain at appropriate dining, listening, dancing, or concert levels. This is a great live band that comprises cross-pollinated longtime bandmates who share a ton of experience playing together in front of audiences (and in studios) spanning cities, counties, states and provinces. The band loves working with sound engineers, but can also deploy self-contained, armed with a small but mighty PA system sufficient to accommodate small to medium venues. The band is, at minimum, a four-piece (guitar/bass/drums/keys, all singers), and seamlessly expands to include horns and percussion for larger and/or jazzier shows, festivals, etc. (They know some phenomenal musicians, and love to hire them!) They released their first CD, "Never on Tuesday," in early 2016. The Fat Fridays are: Mark Dodge (guitar, vocals, keys): veteran guitarist, vocalist, keyboardist, former road warrior who spent a decade 'twixt the 70s and 80s performing on stages from Deadwood to Honolulu, produces personal recording projects at his Big Quack studio and plays fretless bass in Swingnuts Jazz. Andy Carr (keys, vocals): classically-trained jazz pianist, musical director, vocalist, accompanist extraordinaire, co-host of the Jazzvox concert series, and enthusiastic performer who stays busy playing with TimE3Jazz, the A'Town Big Band, the Seabreeze Jazz Band, Tangoheart, and Swingnuts Jazz. James Clark (bass, vocals): first-call bassist, alumnus of the Paul Allen Band and the hot Las Vegas music scene, has played with giants like Bo Diddley, Mick Jagger, and Natalie Cole, performs locally with F3, the Jefferey Morgan Band, and anyone lucky enough to snag him for a gig. (James and Mark spent a few years on the road together in the 80s.) Don Kellogg (drums, vocals): A veteran of the local music scene, and former member of the Cascade Symphony and the US Navy Band, has also paid his "road dues." Don plays drums, bass, guitar, and/or harmonica in umpteen local bands (and counting), including Cookie & the Cutters and the Goodson Band. Put 'em in, coach ... they're ready to play!
