"We Are Blank Planet!"
Blank Planet is a hard driving Progressive Rock band from Leesburg, Virginia. Originally started as a jam band project by drummer Justin Finger and lead guitarist Brian Gianelos, Blank Planet started off humbly like many rock bands, playing their first small summer cookout gig under the band name "Axiom" which included core members Eddie Bradley (guitar) and Topher Frey (bass). Blank Planet's influences include the intricate and rhythmic rock or Tool, Karnivool, and Porcupine Tree, with the solid rock sound of bands such as Iron Maiden.
As the band progressed, added personnel, and began writing their own flavor of progressive rock music, they took on additional small shows for VideoAudioLive, a local production company and other venues, winning several Battle of the Bands showcases. Early 2013 brought the band a name change to “Thrones for the Sun” and a new opportunity, entering the 2013 Loudoun YouthFest Battle Circuit. After winning a top place by defeating a pack of other bands and solidifying their place in the YouthFest lineup, the band entered the studio to begin production of their debut EP, "The Triumvirate."
As the pace picked up, the group juggled recording, the YouthFest battle finals, and multiple VideoAudioLive gigs. In early June the band began to gear up for the big release of "The Triumvirate" to coincide with YouthFest. They arrived at the YouthFest venue on June 15th with a box full of EPs and other assorted merch, ready to kick the stage into high gear. By the end of the day and shortly after their rock solid performance, they had completely sold out of CDs and liquidated all of their merchandise.
The remainder of the summer saw some turmoil within the band, leading to the ousting of their former lead singer in late October 2013. After a short hiatus and a chance to rebuild, retool, and write some new songs the band reformed under a new flag as "Blank Planet."
Current lead singer Jason Marc Saitta was recruited shortly after the name change, and the band charged forward, writing new songs, entering any battle of the bands competition in the area to show off their hard driving style, and playing at DrivenFest in Winchester, Virginia to a large crowd of rock music enthusiasts.
Blank Planet continued its summer resurgence by defeating over 20 bands to become the opening act at Loudoun YouthFest 2014, opening for the California headliner “The Mowglis.”
