A well-rounded person shines like an expertly cut diamond in an audience or group of people...and can make or break your event, just by the way he or she conducts him or herself.
I am that person. I am the one who feels eminently comfortable in a room of five people, or 5000 people. I am the one who will draw them in, include them, utilize their life experiences and the location to create a truly unique experience for all present. Whether it is high school children, adults, seniors, or a mixed group, I can make everyone there feel happy and included.
As a member of over 100 specialty social groups, I meet people of all ages, types, sizes, vocations, and interests on a regular basis. This diversity, from astronomy, space, teaching, education, software engineering, sewing, cars, wine tasting, animals, pets, camping, RVing, reading, beach activities, sports, football, fitness and many other things provides me with considerable fodder for comedy routines and just off-the-cuff banter. I delight in interacting with people, and everyone who knows me will tell you I am funny, very outgoing, and able to carry on a conversation on almost any topic.
One topic about which I am quite passionate is space and astronomy. Hiring me for this type of event gives you the chance to have an experience unlike any other. As an astronomy professor and Education and Public Outreach specialist, I have the unique ability to create a truly Stellar Experience for your group, school, birthday party, wedding, corporate or private event of any size, for any group. I have engaged people from 8 to 80 on this topic, offering views through telescopes suited to age, location, and expertise. With the viewing comes interaction with the crowd, imparting science knowledge and fascination with the universe in a fun, often humorous, inspiring way. I have a range of astronomical instruments available, from a wide field view of the skies, to a behemoth 28" telescope which provides the feeling of almost being able to reach out and touch galaxies, clusters, and nebulae millions of light years away. The backstory of each object will be told, along with why it is important to astronomers and scientists. Discussion of current and forthcoming space instruments and transportation systems will be included, where appropriate, along with overview of rocket propulsion and space travel, if desired and appropriate. Locations can be your back yard, or out to a dark sky site, where the blanket of the heavens unfolds above you. At various times of the year, Saturn's rings and Jupiter's moons will delight you, and the Moon is fun to view from more light polluted areas. Instruments available include the 28" telescope, 12", 8", 4", 2" and two sets of specialized binoculars. All are available individually or in combination with other instruments, to accommodate any size crowd.
I also particularly enjoy public speaking and comedy routines. I have considerable expertise at these, again, customizable to your group and location. The topic can be one of your choice, or I can select from my vast repertoire of speaking and comedic fodder to make something enjoyable for your event.
I wish I had a YouTube video of some of the extemporaneous speaking and comedy I have done, as it would certainly give you a much better feel for what I bring to the table. Perhaps I should hire a film crew to follow me around.
Since I can't think of anything else to add to this, at this point, I will sign off, and thank you for reading my profile to this point. It has been wonderful interacting with you, despite the impersonal aspect of this forum, and I sincerely hope to meet you, and all your friends and colleagues, very soon.
