I am a cardiologist with over 35 years of clinical experience–recently retired with a particular interest in preventing cardiovascular disease/ preventive cardiology. This is become a passion for me mainly due to my realization that there is a tremendous degree of misunderstanding on the part of the general public regarding the warning symptoms and risk factors associated with cardiac disease. I have extensive experiencein speaking to public groups including speaking on behalf of of the American Heart Association. I am pleased to say that over this time I have received an overwhelmingly positive responses from lay audiences including feedback about my ability to impart information in a way that is easily understandable. Heart disease/ specifically coronary artery disease tragically often presents catastrophically in the form of sudden death or devastating heart attacks. I firmly believe their countless lives could be saved by educating the public. In fact, there is little doubt in my mind that I can help more people by speaking than I ever could in my clinical practice. I am also the author of a soon-to-be published book on preventive cardiology. Cardiac disease/ cardiovascular disease remains the number one cause of death in this country despite impressive advances in this field. My message is that this need not be the case. Education/Knowledge is the answer to prevention. I consider this my" Mission". I relish the the role of teacher as well as physician and have committed myself to continuing on this path for the foreseeable future. In closing, I would like to add that I have become a cardiac patient with a recently implantable defibrillator. This is only served to further my passion to address the prevention of cardiac disease and has made me considerably more empathic.
