Matthew Scavo Classical Pianist from Columbus, OH

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Matthew W. Scavo began his musical training at the age of 16. As a young boy, Matt sang in church choirs in both Illinois and Ohio, but decided at age 16 that playing music was more interesting. Born with cerebral palsy, discovered that plays music proved to be a beneficial to his fine motor skills. He has studied piano, viola, and organ, and has been student of Broad Street Presbyterian Church organist Jim Hildreth for several years. Matt received certification in ORGAN Service Playing as Parish Ministry from Methodist Theological School in Delaware, OH in 2004. He studied for the Service Playing Certification with the American Guild of Organists. He served as organist & pianist for The United Church of Christ in Mount Sterling, from 2000 to 2007. And recently began serving as organist/ pianist for First Community Village of Columbus. He also written Ten Steps to Success published in The American Organist Magazine. He played a concert in October 2006 at Zion Ev. Lutheran church (LCMS) in Columbus, Ohio. In the spring he will be playing on the First Congregational church on their lunch time concert series. Through his hard work and determination, Matt is an inspiring example of an individual using and honoring God-given talents.
