IN THE WORDS OF OTHERS, WHO I AM
"There are lots of musicians who can get the notes right, but Jonathan, you make the piano SING." Privileged to hear that more than a few times, when I manage to bring joy and fun into people's lives, then I am doing my job.
I have indeed, across the years built a tone that can be as lush as a waterfall, as sophisticated as a Barbra Streisand or a Duke Ellington, as fun as Nacio Herb Brown (Singing in the Rain), and above all, that is MUSICAL--think Bach, Mozart, and Chopin. An optimist by nature, I bring ebullience to any special occasion, whether you're celebrating a milestone or simply want to bring that extra something to a meeting of your favorite club.
SOME OF MY MOST MEMORABLE GIGS
On a beautiful June afternoon, playing cocktail piano music for a 150-guest wedding reception at White Eagle Golf Club in Naperville, Illinois.
Over a month's time, I coached and prepared 23 Woodridge, Illinois student instrumentalists for band auditions.
A group of us known as "Indiana Street and Beyond" mounted my keyboard into the back of a trailer filled with happy people, hot cider and lots of hay. We drove all over downtown Elmhurst, Illinois, stopping traffic and singing holiday carols.
Walter Delahunt, Montreal, Canada, himself a piano student of Martha Argerish.
Irene Ilic, my vocal coach and director of the Richard Rogers musical OKLAHOMA,
in Lake View, Ontario.
Composer Ludwig Lenel, Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Julia Beckman, Director, the Celebration Singers, Hinsdale, Illinois.
My father, Roy Hand, grand pupil of Theodore Leschetiztky.
If you have your own piano, that's great, if not, I can provide a keyboard. References are available, and I look forward to hearing from you!
