Janelle Hamrick Photography strives to tell real-life stories about real-life people. I follow the moment. I approach each session with an open mind, feeling it out, honoring the mood and unique vibe. My hope is that you feel this genuine energy from me and it helps you to let go and feel safe and connected while we work together, as a team, to capture your story as authentically as possible. I appreciate the unknown, how each family or person is different and lends to creative, surprising, individual storytelling. Capturing what is important for other people is my way of trying to give back something good to the world. I love people; I love meeting them and hearing their stories and I'm generally left feeling in awe that they trust me enough to have a glimpse of their lives for an afternoon. In a nutshell, I'm a photographer because I love to connect with others and I feel deeply and understand emotions – and, honestly, it's a work in progress for me to not be ashamed of that. I want to freeze moments in time. I believe in the power and legacy of photos. My advice to anyone looking for a photographer would be to make sure you are comfortable with the person you choose! It is ultimately a relationship, one that requires vulnerability, teamwork and patience on both sides if you hope to meet the same end goal. If you are not comfortable with a photographer, it will absolutely show in your images. I've traveled to so many worlds because of the people I've met and had the honor of photographing! New, nervous moms; wise grandparents; sleeping babies; emotional souls; budding models; stoic teenagers; chirpy toddlers; talented dancers; ambitious high school seniors; quiet musicians... I've experienced sessions with family members who didn't want to be there, or when the baby wouldn't stop crying, or with people who really want nice photographs but hate how they look in photos. I welcome it all. I celebrate and accept our differences – if you don't feel like smiling, you don't have to. If the baby is fussy, I'm okay with it and I need you to be as well.
