Domestic Harmony Variety Band from Novato, CA

Jean Marie and Jim met through singing, married in a song circle, and have been singing harmony together for many years since. In Domestic Harmony, we've pared back to the minimum: at first just the two of us, and now with Ron on bass and vocals. Domestic Harmony is a blend of voices, of styles and genres. We play tunes from the American Songbook: pop tunes from the 50s, 60s and 70s, some more current still, and a sprinkling of tunes from other times. You'll hear some pop, some soft rock, some R & B, some jazz, some folk, even some reggae. Most you know, and most you love. We write about a third of our music. We find that people quickly love those songs, too, and ask for them by name. We're "almost acoustic" in that we often play acoustic guitars with electric bass and some electric guitar. We're not a dance band per se: no drums. But people find us fun to dance to anyway. We keep the volume under control and think about natural dynamics. People come to listen to us and to sing along, even with our originals. Whatever we do, we relish the dance of voices, the twining and twinning of strings, the space between the notes, the song beyond the notes sung and played. Our songs are our own, whether written by us or borrowed from another time, another artist or band. You might hear the Beatles or Smokey Robinson, Dylan or Dusty Springfield, Neil Young or Bonnie Raitt, The Everly Brothers or Eva Cassidy. Whatever it is, vocal harmony is the thing, with a smile and bounce to its step. We commonly play restaurants, wineries, clubs, private parties, weddings, and other similar events.
