Soprano Virginie Pesch opera and operetta repertoire includes Hero in Béatrice et Bénédict, Pamina in The Magic Flute, Juliette in Roméo et Juliet, Monica in The Medium and Nanetta in Falstaff, Elle in Messager’s operetta L’Amour Masquée and the Angel in Yvrain’s operetta Là-Haut. Among new music works she has premiered or performed are The Bride (1917, 1919 and 1923 versions) by Stravinsky, Connesson’s oratorio Athanor, Kengir (five Sumerian love songs) by F. Bernard Mâche, “I was looking at the ceiling and then I saw the sky” from the songplay Leila by John Adams, Sextine Cyclus by Marc-André Dalbavie and Hans Werner Henze’s cantata Being Beauteous.
Mrs Pesch can be heard on a number of recordings, including Athanor with the Radio France Philharmonic and choir (Naïve 2006), Bruno Ducol’s Li Po with the Erwartung Ensemble (Harmonia Mundi 2000) and John Adams Pièce Pour Orchestre with the Montpellier Philharmonic (Naïve 1999), the mechanic piano and cimbaloms 1919 version of Stravinsky’s The Bride (realease 2007), Sextine Cyclus with the Itineraire Ensemble of Paris (release 2007).
She specializes in contemporary vocal works and has premiered a number of them at new music festivals or on radio broadcasts in France and in Europe, working with living composers John Adams, Hans Werner Henze, Marc-André Dalbavie, Thomas Adès, F. Bernard Mâche and Bruno Ducol, among many others.
She also has sung early music and standard operatic and operetta works with French national and regional opera companies in Nancy, Rennes, Tours, Nîmes, Caen, La Rochelle, Besançon, Orléans and at the Champs Elysées Theatre of Paris.
Her concert appearances in new music have been with the Presence Festival, produced by Radio France, with Festival St. Céré, the Ictus Ensemble, Fondation Royaumont in Paris, Festival Aspeckte in Salzburg, Montpellier Festival, l’Ensemble Erwartung and Chatelet Theatre, both in Paris.
In Los Angeles Ms. Pesch does voiceover recording and can be heard on HBO’s Big Love and ABC’s Jake in Progress. She also coaches voice and French language. A graduate of the Paris Conservatory with piano training from the Music Academy of Monaco, she also has training and education in the fields of art/music therapy and dance.
