A native Floridian, Jimmy's been performing both as a solo act and with his band, Jimmy Parrish & The Waves, for nearly thirty years. After forming his first tropical themed band in 2000, his goal was to entertain audiences throughout the southeast with an island style, tropical vibe. Armed with a combination of acoustic rock heavily influenced by the music of artists like Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney, along with his love for the ocean and time spent in the islands, Jimmy helped pave the way for what would be an up-and-coming musical genre now known as 'Trop Rock'. In 2008, Chesney's management group hosted a nationwide contest to find the Next Big Star, which Jimmy and his band won in the northeast Florida region. As a result, they were awarded the opportunity to open for Chesney at the Jacksonville Memorial Arena later that year. It was quite a thrill indeed, Jimmy boasts. "We got to play rock stars for a night in front of nearly 15,000 people!” The music of Jimmy and his band has grown greatly in popularity in recent years. With the release of their fourth album, I Need a New Island, this TRMA award winning band has established themselves as one of the more well-known acts in the Trop Rock nation. In recent years, Jimmy Parrish & The Waves have headlined many of the larger Trop Rock events in the country. They were awarded the Trop Rock Music Assoc. Horizon Award, and nominated in four more categories including Band of the Year, Album of the Year, Musician of the Year, and Song of the Year. You can expect to hear high-energy island-style covers by artists like Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, Bob Marley, The Beach Boys, of course tons of Buffett, both popular and obscure, nostalgic beach music from yesteryear, Latin style jazz tunes for dinner sets and social settings, and a long list of creative originals peppered in throughout the shows. Performing at corporate events and private functions is and always has been an essential part of my music world, it's allowed me the opportunity to enjoy a full-time career in the music industry. With the help of some really good agents, for over twenty years I've had the pleasure of performing at some of the finest resorts in the country, many located right here along Florida's east coast. My first corporate event performance was in 1990. It wasn't until five years later I began keeping a record of these groups. To date we've performed for over four hundred fifty companies for corporate events and private functions. Yes you're reading this correctly, that's a lot of shows.....and groups! The best piece of knowledge I've gained over the years is that it's always been important to be versatile. For example, being able to work closely with event coordinators, smoothly and swiftly adjust to last minute time or location changes, and offer different lineup options depending on the number of attendees and respective budget. From there I can provide the acoustic Trio, our most popular lineup consisting of acoustic, electric, and bass guitars along with an Alesis SR18 drum machine for a full band sound. The song choices are very similar to what I offer with the Solo act, just with additional instrumentation. From here we add a 4th piece, a live drummer, where we now have a more upbeat live show where dancing and a little volume is encouraged. Finally, for larger events, bigger stages and more flexible budgets, we bring in the complete five-piece band. You get big sound, big lights, and an entertaining, interactive show that'll have your group down in front dancing and singing along all night!
