Soul Searching-
I grew up in probably one of the roughest neighborhoods in North Philadelphia. My mother struggled in raising five boys alone and most of the time I didn't see her until midnight. My father was a drug addict and alcoholic who suffered from PST after Vietnam. At an early age I engaged in what I thought was going to be what I did for the rest of my life. At the age of 15 I had the funds to buy my own car and the money used for the purchase wasn't from a summer job. Whenever I was short of cash I would go back to the streets and do what I had to do. It kept me connected to a family that as we use to say in the hood- "had your back". Growing up in these conditions if you were not part of a crew than you was looked at as "not cool" or a "punk" for lack of a better word. I knew in my heart that I had to do better but never new how?

After my third run in with the law, I took control. I used the arts which was the one thing that made me feel alive and made decisions that led me to where I am today. I painted, wrote and performed spoken word, danced, and produced electronic music. I held a residency as a DJ at a night club at the age of 19 for about five years. I started to perform with several dance groups and loved every minute of it. Still there was something missing. Through this journey of becoming a better person I met my wife. I never looked back ever since. She inspired me to go back to school and get bachelors in what I loved. I received a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Temple University and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Later on I went back for my Masters.

Change will always be the elephant in the room. Due to this reality, we often let excuses overcome our desire to grow and excel in what we love. I spend most of my time in my profession inspiring others in the arts field, pushing them to search deep inside and take risks. When we take a step back and are given the resources to self-reflect, leaders are born and organizations triumph. The end result is truly amazing. Productivity increases while burnout decreases. Whether you are a small or large company, non-profit or individual, everyone struggles with change and growth. I've managed teams and created a space for them to self-reflect in order to align with organizational goals and objectives resulting in organizational growth and employee self worth. My talk focuses on presenting news ways of thinking from a creative foundation, taking risks, and making tough decisions that realizes success. Sometimes all we need is to be fully present.
