Born in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Carlos Figueroa learned to play the bugle at the age of 9 at Escuela Primaria Tomas Medina, under the instruction of Sara Garza; Vocal instruction with music teacher Señorita Conchita; Piano and trumpet at the age of 10 at Escuela Municipal de Musica in Santa Ana under the instruction of the teacher and Army band director Manuel Humberto Serna. Playing with La Orquesta Don Bosco in San Salvador under the direction of Padre Lopez, young Carlos was heavily influenced by Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Perez Prado, Louis Armstrong, Carlos Santana, The Beatles, The Doors, Chicago, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra.
At the age of 15 Carlos began playing with a local Spanish-Rock band, Los Cristians, with lead vocal Mario M. Figueroa, Los TNT, La Quinta Dimencion(English Rock Band),and Jarahua Band. It was with Los Rebeldes under the direction of Ricardo Giron where album Nada was recorded and resulted in him moving to San Salvador after graduating from the Instituto Nacional de Musica. During his stay in San Salvador, in 1974 and 1975, Carlos attended La Universidad Nacional de El Salvador where he studied Music under the direction of Paquito Palaviciny.
Later, Carlos played with Los Amigos- (a Latin Jazz band) and was signed by a US cruise line to play in the band, being that he had a strong background in Salsa, Jazz, Rock and Big Band. Cruising along the Gulf of Mexico, Carlos played the piano and trumpet under the direction of the band leader, Tilo Paiz. In 1976, Carlos moved to Houston Tx where he played with Tropical Guyana, under the direction of Jose Reyes; La Fuga Rock Band under the direction of Juan Nuño; El Combo Moderno under the direction of Juan Martinez.
Later in the year Sonora Santa Ana salsa band was started under the direction of Carlos Figueroa, performing in Houston, TX; New Orleans, LA; Oklahoma City, OK; Los Angeles, CA; and Las Vegas, NV at the MGM. In 2000, Carlos went into the studio to record their first album "Abrochate el Cinturon" and later in the year performed on the 'Johnny Canales Show' in Brownsville, TX. In 2005, they performed at the Hollywood Park Casino in Los Angeles, CA. with the reunited original band members of Los Cristians, under the direction of Mario M. Figueroa. In 2011, Carlos performed with the Cuban and Puerto Rican festival on the trumpet and with El Rectorado Del Son Cuban band under the direction of Carlos Nash. Later in the year, Carlos was once again signed by a US cruise line from Miami Fl. to South America to perform with Salsamore Band, under the direction of Cesarios on vocals, guitar and piano; Rocio Rios on vocals and congas; Alex Zegarra on vocals and guitar; Juan Aponte in vocals and timbales; Carlos Figueroa in vocals, piano and trumpet.
