Ruben is also an ordained minister and conducts weddings for friends, relatives, and clients. As a triathlete, Rubens' mental resilience, emotional strength and physical endurance helped him recover from a serious cycling injury that nearly took his life. Ruben incorporates these key elements into his motivational speaking to show how these elements can be applied to everyday situations. Ruben is the Past Executive Director of the Scott Newman Center, founded by the late actor Paul Newman. Ruben has written and produced educational materials and videos designed to teach parents substance abuse prevention and parenting techniques. In 1994 he developed The Rowdy Ridge Gang Camp. Prior to joining the Scott Newman Center, Ruben worked as a Juvenile Diversion Counselor for the Torrance Police Department where he counseled youth and families. Ruben was instrumental in developing an innovative outdoor and wilderness education program for at-risk teens. Prior to working for the police department Ruben implemented a high school student mental health program at Torrance High School. This state recognized award winning program focused on reducing teen stress and training peer-counselors. Ruben began his distinguished human service career while working with low income and inner-city youth for the Los Angeles Catholic Archdiocese summer camp program at St. Vincent de Paul Ranch Camp. Ruben devoted six consecutive summers to St. Vincent's working as a camp counselor, aquatics director and program specialist. Ruben holds a Masters Degree in Clinical & Community Psychology from California State University Dominguez Hills. Other past professional endeavors included teaching psychology at Brooks College in Long Beach, California and teaching continuing education courses to teachers through The University of Phoenix. Ruben has been a professional trainer and public speaker for over twenty years and has presented training workshops to many diverse groups throughout the United States and Canada. He has also presented at human service, prevention, camping and education industry conferences.
