Big John has been described as 'the world's oldest teenager'. In addition to being a terrific singer, Big John projects a warm & playful personality that puts a smile on one's face and guarantees a good time. He began his career with The Fabulous Upsetters who recorded for Motown in 1959.The Celebrators also feature the vocals and keyboards of Lisa York.On guitar is the versatile virtuoso Scott Ives. On bass is Steve York, recipient of the Minnesota Music Academy bassist award for 1997 and 2002. Steve has played with a long list of major artists and has played on a number of Gold and Platinum albums. See for more info. The drummer is Donald 'Hye Pockets' Robertson', one of the first call drummers in the Twin Cities with an impressive history of R&B and blues credentials. In addition to performing with Big John, members of the Celebrators also regularly back up touring acts such as the Platters, Coasters, Drifters, Bo Diddley , & Chuck Berry. As a result some songs from these artists' repertoire have found their way into Big John's, guaranteeing authentic renditions of some old favorites alongside some of the most contemporary blues & R&B around today. Horns can be added by request, or the band can work from solo to quartet.
