I've been a bandleader at hundreds of weddings, birthday parties, private events, store openings, memorials and I've even led a few parades. Whether you want soulful and sweet, funky and fun or classy and romantic, I know thousands of songs and can play them from memory. I've learned music that spans the globe, including klezmer, Latin and classical music, everything from Mozart to Motown! Jazz means a lot of things to a lot of people but there's one thing every style of music has in common and that's a good melody. The sax is everybody's favorite instrument for this reason. It's just one of those instruments that has the power to convey a song. I have earned my reputation for being a lyrical saxophonist and I take pride in this skill. The sax is an easy instrument to learn but a difficult one to master. You only need to hear a few notes to recognize that when you hear Michael Blake, you are hearing the real thing. I am not a weekend warrior. Playing the horn is my job. My instruments are the tenor, alto and soprano sax but I also play baritone sax, flute, clarinet and piano.
