Perfect Manhattan Jazz Ensemble from New York City, NY

To date, none have expressed the romantic side of New York City better than the writers of popular song including Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Richard Rodgers. "Perfect Manhattan" is clarinetist Evan Christopher's acoustic ensemble presenting timeless melodies from the "Great American Songbook" with luminous elegance. Devoid of clichés, caricatures or costumes, this assemblage of NYC A-Listers is ideal for dignified occasions of any size. Their tailored performances will light up any space with the style and swing of New York's golden age. Evan Christopher has an international reputation as an advocate for early jazz and traditional New Orleans music. Charismatic and versatile, he was drawn to New Orleans from his native California in 1994 by the rich cultural landscape and music scene. Currently, however, he splits time between the Big Easy and the Big Apple, where he performs frequently and teaches periodically for Jazz at Lincoln Center. Critics remarking on Christopher's dynamic expressiveness and intimate approach have coined his style "close-encounter music" (NEW YORK TIMES) and have called his respect for the music traditions of New Orleans, "a triumph, joining the present seamlessly to a glorious past." (THE OBSERVER, UK). Named after the classic cocktail, "Perfect Manhattan" is Christopher's new pet project. It was created to offer a bespoke musical experience for all who share his passion for the vintage American music that gave New York its luster. As this is the group's specialty, requests in the genre are not only welcome but encouraged. Services typically range from one hour to three hours. Ensemble's attire is suits with ties, or if preferred, tuxedos or dinner jackets. The core ensemble of "Perfect Manhattan" is a quartet with clarinet, trumpet guitar & bass. However, it can be scaled down to a trio, even a duo, or augmented with piano (if a tuned, acoustic instrument is available) and/or a female vocalist (if an adequate P.A. system is available). Our audio samples include several of these variations, but all demonstrate our emphasis on creating ambiance that is warm and elegant. Potential clients agree to an in-person meeting or teleconference with Evan Christopher to discuss their event details, but also to ensure mutual confidence that "Perfect Manhattan" is the right fit, expectations are clear, and both parties are concern-free. After this, the date will be held by contract and 50% deposit.
