Born on Christmas day to an African American mother and a Mexican American biracial father, Dieter was introduced to diversity at an early age. Witnessing domestic violence from a father who was bipolar Dieter carried a behavioral disorder himself labeled as I.E.D. Dieter saw his parents threaten each other with weapons, abuse drugs, and this eventually resulted in Dieter being placed into foster care. Being sent to other cities to live with different relatives, it all came to an end when Dieters parents divorced when he was around 10 years old. When his father left the family, Dieter and his mother experienced bankruptcy, and soon after that his mother became very ill from a condition called Spinal Meningitis and had to undergo multiple surgeries leaving Dieter for long periods of time. By this time Dieter had grown accustomed to being away from his mother through foster care.
Dieter was then ready for a change and was willing to help others not only in his community, but anyone who had witnessed hardships and lack of opportunity. Since then he has started position of power, a 501 c3 nonprofit organization, obtained various college degrees, as well as many other accomplishments altering any stereotypes that were held against him. His organization, P.O.P (Position of Power) has constructed various events such as breast cancer awareness campaigns, hiv awareness, gang interventions, neighborhood cleanups, and so forth. Their most successful campaign is their Respect Women merchandise. The RESPECT WOMEN campaign was created to spread a positive concept and worthy representation of women in society. With many social issues such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, and other forms of female degradation RESPECT WOMEN is a message within itself, signifying how you should treat a woman physically, verbally, and emotionally. With RESPECT. He states, and I quote “There's always room for improvement. We play the hands of cards life deals us. Sometimes the worst hands can make us the best players.”
Dieter Cantu has received many awards and accolades including a pardon and a proclamation from the city. Position of Power has done events with many large companies such as medtronics, HEB, Susan G Coleman, Metropolitan Health District, Toyota, and various districts and precincts for the city of San Antonio. He is available to speak for kids, adults, inmates, students, church functions, outreach events, etc.
