Gustavo Alonso López Flamenco Guitarist from Seattle, WA

Gustavo Alonso López is a flamenco guitarist based in Seattle, Washington. His music is grounded in traditional flamenco and incorporates elements of jazz, classical, and world music. In addition to leading his own performance groups, he also performs in numerous other group settings, and works on select recording projects. In spring of 2014, Gustavo independently recorded Punto Lejano, his first full-length studio album, at Empty Sea Studios in Seattle. The album was performed by a 6-piece, instrumental ensemble and consists of four long-form, through-composed pieces. The album was released in summer of 2014 and was performed live to an enthusiastic audience in Seattle shortly thereafter. This project is ongoing and new iterations are in development. Gustavo's fascination with music and the guitar began early, and he picked up the instrument in earnest at the age of 19. Starting on electric guitar, his focus switched to flamenco after a few years. His initial curiosity towards flamenco quickly became a full-fledged obsession, as he was enamored with the strength, depth, and complexity of the art form. Although primarily self-taught, he has refined his playing with several of North America's top players. Gustavo has also spent several years accompanying flamenco dance and singing. In addition to his love of flamenco, Gustavo is a fan of jazz, classical, rock, and various forms of world music, and enjoys playing with artists from these different traditions. He was born and raised in Twin Falls, Idaho, and has resided in Seattle since 2007. He has also lived in Las Vegas, NV; Turin, Italy; St. Louis, MO; Barcelona, Spain; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
