My Name is Hector Jose Marquez, and I am a Flamenco singer and guitarist. I perform with the very best Flamenco dancers, singers and guitarists in the Washington DC metropolitan area and in the United States. My Flamenco Show includes one singer, one guitarist, and your choice of one or more dancers (a wooden floor would need to be provided for the Flamenco dancers to produce sound with their shoes). My Flamenco Rumba shows (Gipsy Kings style of music) consists of 2 or 3 guitarist who are singers as well. I provide sound and lighting for both the Flamenco Show and Flamenco Rumbas show. Hector Jose Marquez was born in Washington, DC. He was first exposed to flamenco through his father, Hector Marquez, Sr. Mr. Marquez started his flamenco education in Granada, Spain with Paco Trujillo, who educated him on compas and the fundamentals of the Flamenco guitar. He later traveled to Sanlucar de Barameda, Cadiz to further enhance his Flamenco education, where he first studied cante with Rafael Bernal and with Maestro Rafael De Utrera. It was only after attending one of Rafael Bernal's concerts that Mr. Marquez discovered his vocation as a flamenco cantaor, and upon returning to the U.S. he began to work in local tablaos. Mr. Marquez has worked with national Flamenco figure, Edwin Aparicio and his company “Flamenco Aparicio” at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, Creative Alliance, Center Stage, Gala Hispanic Theater, The Harman Hall Shakespeare Theare, Instituto Cervantes (Chicago), Teatro Nacional Ruben Dario (Nicaragua), and the Old Town School of Folk Music (Chicago). Mr Marquez has also worked with Anna Menendez and her company “Pastora Flamenco”, Natalia Monteleon and “Arte Flamenco”, with world renowned Ismael De La Rosa and Sonia Olla in “Tablao Sevilla” (NYC), worked in the world renowned Flamenco Tablao “Alegrias La Nacional” (NYC) and has performed in various local festivals as well. Mr. Margquez performed a week at the Kennedy Center with the Washington Ballet as a guest singer in Hemingway's “The Sun Also Rises”. Mr. Marquez has worked with several Flamenco guitarists, percussionists, singers and dancers that include: Richard Marlow, Behzad Habibzai, Pedro Cortes, Raphael Brunn, Gonzalo Grau, Tobias Guzman, Tony Denis, Jimmy Wilson, Ismael Fernandez “El Bola”, Amparo “La Rempompilla” Heredia, Ivan Vargas, Auxi Fernandez, Antonio Hidalgo, and Nelida Tirado. Mr. Marquez now performs locally, nationally and internationally.
