As a freshman in the fall of 1982, Phil Gaitan began his Disk Jockey career by volunteering as a resident DJ for WUMC College Park Radio 88.1 FM (University of Maryland).
At that time WUMC had just received their license to broadcast and was getting started. The station's Effective Radiated Power was only 2 watts, enough to cover the college campus (3,000 to 5,000 listeners).
Phil made his way to lead DJ for the station as a Senior and was very instrumental in bringing bands like the Psychedelic Furs, Devo, The Ramones, B52's and others to venues at the University. He also began a Disk Jockey Music Service, servicing the University of Maryland, College Park Campus – Thrills Outstanding Performances.
Upon his graduation, Phil became know as “DJ Phil The Thrill” by WHFS (99.1) Bethesda Maryland Radio own in house DJ Jonathan “Weasel” Gilbert. By that time (summer of 1986) WUMC had grown to 10 watts, which was enough to cover the entire metropolitan area of Washington, DC – Millions of Listeners.
Phil then moved on to WRQS (Q107) FM Radio in Baltimore, MD where he worked as a Part Time Radio Disk Jockey for the TOP 40 radio station. In addition, Phil grew his Disk Jockey Music Service to eight Mobile Disk Jockeys which serviced the area for Wedding, Private Parties and Bars.
The real world and work eventually consumed Phil's free time, and in turn his DJ Mobile Business and in 1989 Phil relocated to Tampa, Florida.
His love of collecting music did not stop Phil and his quest for the greatest song library, so shortly after moving to Tampa, Phil became involved in local area events and festivities like the Gasparilla Invasion, The St. Pete Rib Fest and the RayBan IronMan Competition where Phil played as a supporting Disk Jockey.
Today Phil is very selective on the venues he performs in, and has dedicated most of his time to DJing at Fund Raising Events and Clubs. Phil's love for his heritage “Greek” continues and is witnessed by the list shown here. In addition Phil offers his talents with Remixes and Video Production.
Take some time to review the music variety and make your decision for DJ Phil the Thrill at your next event!
