Chances are, you have a good idea of what your special event should look like. It is probably well organized, flows smoothly, and leaves your guests in a wonderful state of excitement mixed with relaxation. Behind the scenes, however, you are likely to spend hours upon hours meticulously planning every detail to make sure that your 90-year-old great-aunt Ethel stays well rested and hydrated, while your husband's college roommates relive their breakdancing glory days on the dance floor. You keep doing rounds, to make sure that your guests are socializing and truly enjoying themselves; you remember to keep an eye on the iPod playlist you've put together; and of course, there are also food and entertainment options to plan for… None of it is cheap, and that's not even taking the value of your time into consideration. It's enough to make you want to rethink hosting the event!
Do not despair - we are here to help. Before you cancel that Evite, please take a deep breath and read a few of our suggestions for making your party a wonderful event without the headache or the outrageous price tag.
Your time is valuable! Over and over again, this is the one challenge that we see driving most people up the wall before they come to us. Think of it as a simple math equation: divide the extra cash you would have saved by doing a task yourself by the number of hours it will take you to do this task. If it is still worth it, go for it. If not - delegate to professionals. (Side note: And by professionals, we don't mean your cousin Benny, an aspiring DJ, who may think that the latest F-bomb-dropping track is a great idea for a children's party. Yes, this actually happened to one of our clients).
Fabulous events are created by people, and there is no such thing as a must-have, no matter what your event. Nobody will gush about your bachelorette party for years to come because you had served the most delightful calamari! If given the choice between spending extra on catering or investing in entertainment, always go with the latter option, and your guests will surely thank you later. You'll also get the additional benefits of phenomenal (and often hilarious) photographs, and of course - the reputation of being a fun host or hostess.
You don't have to spend an arm and a leg to create lifelong memories. Rather than having a four-tier cake and flowers imported from some exotic land, you may choose to make your wedding extra memorable by having your guests write their wishes for the new couple, tying them to balloons or Chinese lanterns, and releasing them into the sky. With a myriad of celebration traditions worldwide, your options are limitless.
Most importantly, remember: this is your event. The one person whose opinion is supposed to matter the most is you. So have fun, however you imagine it!
