The HIP HOP CATZ use Hip Hop as a learning tool. By performing educational raps, rhymes and choreographed dance routines in full costumes. Our main purpose is to inform children about the importance of education, reading and being literate.
Imagine using the rap lyrics in a book with illustrations Hip Hop images! How often do you think kids from urban areas would pick up books with rap lyrics from artists they enjoy listening to?
Illiteracy problems exist in most urban areas and Hip Hop is most popular in urban communities, so my book would relate to those communities more. This is not to say that the larger community would not relate to the book. But, urban youth, at a young age seem to be able memorize some of the most difficult and outrageous lyrics from these raps but seem to struggle when it comes to reading. I believe this kind of book can be beneficial and popular with the new young Hip Hop reading generation.

My name is William Mackson, author of The story of THE HIP HOP CATZ & THE K-9 Crew. The reason for writing my book is to try to address the illiteracy problem in urban areas. "Mic Check 1, 2, 1, 2" is a famous phrase used to test the sound system or the functioning of a microphone. It's also a popular term used by the original DJ's and MC's of Hip Hop. I started off my letter in this way to show you the fun way Hip Hop can be used in literature.
In the early 80's I created the brand 'Cooch Styles” a line of fashions that was the precursor to today's Hip Hop fashions of the street. Long before Hoodies and oversized wear became en vogue and lines like Phat Pharm, Karl Kani and Echo Wear came on the scene I was like what Little Richard was to Rock and Roll “ An Innovator and creator of the first Black Hip Hop clothing designs that helped to create the culture. Without a doubt, the first in the area of the small town of Lakewood N.J. to do what I was doing, I and another individual by the name of Vincent Carpio was without question a major influence on up and coming designers, in the area most notably was Marc Ecko who I knew long before he got to where he is now. I have always been a fan of Hip Hop music, ever since it hit the streets and I first heard the words, of the timeless The Sugar Hill Gang classic tune Rappers Delight:
“I said a hip hop, Hippie to the hippie,The hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it To the bang
