SERVE UP THE FUNNY!!!
Performed on THE TONIGHT SHOW With Jay Leno (June 2012)
Now my specialty is surprising audiences with my uniquely humorous character "The Rhythm Chef" -- World-Record-Holding Spoons Player
First I mingle among the food-service staff incognito -- sometimes, until dinner is served. Then the music comes up and I pull out my huge, silvery serving spoons and dance while tapping out my world-class rhythms to whatever music you'd like for the event: Rock-and-Roll; Hip hop; Swing; Jazz; Dubstep; EDM; Reggae; Steel Band; Country; Pop, etc.
As I start to play, all eyes will be on me, and you'll notice the camera-phones being held high to capture the spectacle for the social media pages. (The buzz continues long after the event!)
After the first song, I often introduce myself to the audience and continue the fun with a few family-friendly jokes as I assume the duties of Emcee. Sometimes, I'll extend my act by calling for volunteers who want to learn to learn play spoons, and perhaps other kitchen tools... and THAT'S when things get really funny!!! After a couple minutes of sounding like a train wreck in the Holland Tunnel, we'll start the music again and VOILA, all of the participants will fall into rhythm (they always do), and to the amazement of the audience.
As we bring the audience-participation segment to the finale, the crowd will applaud with enthusiastic delight for the participants -- who are now minor celebrities in their own right. As they leave the stage I'll ask 2 to stay to assist me in my attempt to break my own world record originally set in 2012 (held for 3 years now.) I may even set a new and excitingly different world record, as well. Such as: Largest spoons ever played in rhythm; or... Most rolling palm flips in 30 seconds; or... Fastest Boogie-woogie beats played on a MOUTH! It will be a hoot!
We may decide to have a pre-arranged volunteer be the focus of a funny "haircut" segment (when I pretend to cut a man's hair (with the spoons) and encounter an invisible bug!) Howls of laughter ring out as I stomp the beast (the bug... NOT the volunteer!)
Then I'll bring the final song up and play even faster! We're going to have a blast... we always do!!!
Before taping The Tonight Show, Ricky Minor (Bandleader of The Tonight Show Band) exclaimed..."You're AMAZING!"
The band did a great job backing me! Thanks Ricky!
Depending on the event, my show can be as short as a single song, or a 20 minute show. It's your call. Of course, if I am emceeing the evening's events, I'll follow the agenda for the rest of the evening.
If you have a band, or even a pianist or guitarist at the event as well, I'll usually play a song with them, too (at their, or your request.)
My act is not one that provides an evening of entertainment on it's own, as it is a novelty/specialty act, but as the legitimate "world's best spoons player", I always add a uniquely fascinating and fun spectacle to any event. And with my audience participation segment, the laughs do, and will, roll!
My background is in providing exceptional customer service, and I have practiced business marketing and promotion most of my adult life. So I now consider myself to be somewhat of a Brand Ambassador with a show that will attract a crowd, and fascinates and delights audiences. It can be a classy act, or silly and funny -- depending on the vibe you want me to create. But it will most certainly be entertaining and remarkably fun and memorable.
What I have learned to do, is to make raving fans wherever I perform. I love my audiences, and I'm honored to be able to confidently say, they love me as well.
Please make an inquiry to check my availability on your event date, and to ask any questions you may have, and perhaps we could talk a bit to see if we can brainstorm a plan that will spice up your event with The Rhythm Chef. I am congenial and easy to talk to.
Thank you for your kind consideration!
