From Bach to Rock, Seattle to Semiahmoo, we play it all.
Handel, Mendelssohn, and Beethoven wedding tunes and on to the Beach Boys and Beatles, to Adele, Avril, Bruno Mars, Cold Play, Daft Punk, Ellie Goulding, Enya, Lady Gaga, Magnetic Zeros, Christina Perri and Katy Perry, Sting, The Verve, Train (we've added dozens of custom pop tune arrangements). Or tangos like La Paloma, Por Una Cabeza, El Choclo, and La Cumparsita; jazz from Gershwin to Porter, to Brubeck and Jobim. Add some R&B from Chuck Berry, Percy Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, and Smokey Robinson, or even Irish jigs and Klezmer. Yes, we play hymns, plus many movie and video game themes - exceeding 600 tunes for string quartet, about 200 for string trio, and dozens more for piano trio - likely one of the largest gigging strings repertoires in the Americas. Along with our baroque/classical audio samples, mp3s of some classical rock/pop and jazz tunes are available, with more than 60 of our own, original arrangements.
On the classical side, our last concert at the Whatcom Museum of History and Art, with guest pianist and concert soloist, Dan Solo, aired the Brahms Piano Trio, opus 114; Faure Piano Quartet, opus 15; along with the prodigiously difficult Ysaye sonata #3 (Ballade) for solo violin.
Protea players have performed with the Emerson and Leontovitch string quartets, Seattle Symph., Northwest Ballet, and Whatcom, Pasadena, and Monterey Bay symphonies. Several have Masters degrees in music performance.
