Blackwater Station is a group of highly seasoned Santa Cruz area musicians who seek to entertain you with the best in Classic Rock, Blues Rock, Motown and original music. Our emphasis is on strong lead vocals as well as vocal harmonies and producing a sound that catches your ear and makes you want to dance.
Every member of the band has been playing and performing for at least 20 years and understands the need to please an audience. The band has been playing central coast clubs and private events since May of 2008.
Blackwater Station is a five piece band consisting of lead guitar, slide guitar/harmonica, keyboards, bass and drums. Four of the Five members sing which adds to the rich sound of this dynamic band.
Robin Ellison Has been playing in bands since the age of 15 when "girls" were becoming the cool thing. She has played in popular cover bands and original bands as well, opening for such big names as The Neville Brothers and Steven Bishop. You will hear traces of her early musical heroes Linda Ronstadt and Bonnie Raitt in her singing but her sound is all her own. Robin adds keyboards and acoustic guitar to her singing talents and helps round out the Blackwater Station sound.
By Jr. High Jeff was already playing in local area bands. His influences include Ray Charles, John Lennon, Steven Stills and Eric Clapton. He has opened shows for Etta James, Taj Mahal and Moby Grape and has recorded for A&M, Bear West and Sea-West studios. Jeff's soulful voice, slide guitar and harmonica playing and songwriting gives Blackwater Station it's distinct style.
Chris' foundational musical impact came when he first saw the Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan show in February 1964. He was amazed by their song writing ability, melodic vocal harmonies, presence, and instant appeal. His two older brothers also influenced his taste in rock with the variety of record albums they would play as Chris grew up. Chris' style was influenced by great British and American guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Paige, Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, and Jimi Hendrix. Chris has played in bands extesively throughout his life, regulary playing in his church's praise band as well. Chris' soulful and melodic style of playing add a unique flavor to Blackwater Station's sound.
Ron has been playing bass for over 32 years and is a graduate of the Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA. His roots are in rock, but he is equally comfortable in jazz, Latin,Fusion and most other styles. Ron has extensive stage and studio experience playing in all original and cover bands for many years. Ron's precision playing and "ear" for perfection give the band's members inspiration and direction.
Dave Prentice is a well rounded Bay Area musician who is versed in jazz, rock and blues. He has played with Peter Kaukonena and Ruthann Freidman who authored the song "Wendy" and has also had the distinction of playing with Michael Shreive of Santana fame. Dave's crisp sound gives Blackwater Station it's rhythmic signature.
