Lightnin' Mark Lee, a native of Philadelphia, is a talented and dynamic lead guitarist with a love for the Blues. But his versatility and musical skill has seen him master a wide variety of styles – from funk and soul, to classic rock, to country.
In addition to being an instructor off and on for more than 20 years, Mark has been a sideman and member of numerous blues, classic rock, funk, soul, country and R&B style bands. He has played extensively in venues in around the Tri-state area/Delaware Valley. His love for the blues and soul music has taken him to visit and jam in iconic music spots around the United States, including BB King's club in Memphis, TN; Morgan Freeman's Groundzero Blues Club in Clarksdale, MS; Antones Club in Austin, TX; The Rock N Bowl in New Orleans, LA; and at and Buddy Guy's Legends Club in Chicago, IL.
A fantastic showman, Mark has been known to light up live audiences by playing the electric guitar behind his head, between his legs and behind his back; and to play slide guitar runs with a beer bottle. His passionate playing style and incendiary, stinging vibrato is reminiscent of the late guitar greats Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the three Kings: Albert, Freddie and BB. Mark displays an authenticity that few guitar players can emulate.
While stationed in Texas during his Army years, Mark was able to jam the blues all over honky tonks and juke joints in Texas border towns. While stationed just outside of Seattle, WA, he met Jimi Hendrix's father, Al Hendrix, in a juke joint bar. Mr. Hendrix suggested to Mark that he should keep on jamming.
To this day, Mark has never forgotten those words of encouragement from Al Hendrix ... and The Lightnin' Mark Lee Blues Band continues to excite audiences all along the East Coast, performing for clubs, weddings, parties, and all forms of events, with their special and unique brand of The Blues!
