Based in the greater NYC area, Cricket Tell the Weather is a five-piece indie string band featuring bluegrass-inspired original music. Strongly influenced by American traditional music, Cricket also includes rock, pop, and jazz elements, contributing to the growing genre of progressive bluegrass. Award-winning songwriters Andrea Asprelli (fiddle) and Jason Borisoff (guitar) received a blue ribbon in 2011 at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival Songwriting Competition, voted IBMA Event of the Year, for their co-written song “Remington”. They are joined by Manhattan-based Doug Goldstein on the banjo, Dan Tressler on mandolin from Easton, CT, and Brooklyn-native Hans Bilger on bass. The quintet's voice carries a new spirit that explores a century of influences, owing as much to the traditions that inspired bluegrass to the journey that follows. The band is excited to be featured at Joe Val Bluegrass Festival, Del Fest, Ossipee Valley Music Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, and Brandywine Folk Festival in their first year. Cricket is set to release their independent debut album in December 2013. Along with strong original material, Cricket Tell the Weather performs traditional, rock, pop, and Americana material with youthful energy, as well as professional solidity. Cricket is a consistent hit at parties and weddings!
