Recomendation Letter from Ronnie Stewart (Written December 2015):
As a full time musician and recording engineer/producer, you get to meet and
hear a lot of musicians and singers, along with many bands. Once in a while you
meet a group of people that just have something a little extra to offer and
"Backwoods Bluegrass" is for sure one of those bands.
I first got acquainted with them thru their banjo player, Sarah McCullough, and
Austin Harper who I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to pick some with
just under a year ago at a local impromptu jam session.
Sarah is one of the most talented pickers you will see or hear, and has an
amazing musical ear that is the rarest of rare. She excels at more than one
instrument, and has the makings of being an amazing multi instrumentalist.
Austin is also a very talented guy, doing most of the lead vocals and playing
mandolin. Austin is also a great guitar player and has a unique voice, great tone
and his own way of singing a song. Austin also has a great desire to play and
sing, and that's what it takes!
Rusty is the bass player, and although I wasn't familiar with Rusty's playing,
he is a great player and I became a fan of his instantly the first time I got the
chance to sit in with the band at a gig. Rusty plays great tone, and has a great feel
to his playing, which on bass, that's everything!
Joe is the last member and the only member that I was acquainted with before.
He and I jammed years ago, and sometimes it's funny how things can come back
in a circle. Joe is a great guitar player and singer, and is doing lead vocals as well
as most of the tenor vocals.
Backwood's Bluegrass have their own sound, and that in itself is half the battle!
They are great folks, do their job as professionals, and enjoy what they do,
there's no doubt.
If you're looking for a band to have at your venue, give these guys a holler, you
will be glad you did! I totally recommend them. They are currently working on a
full project, and as you can tell from these first three songs, it's going to be great.
I'm looking forward to getting back in and finishing this, I can't wait to hear it all!
