VanPort Jazz Big Band from Portland, OR

VanPort Jazz is a local musical ensemble dedicated to maintaining the tradition of Big Band jazz. Over the past decade, the ensemble has evolved from a local community group focusing on early swing music, to its current roster of 17 amateur and semi-professional musicians playing a more eclectic book of some 300 charts. Over time, through regular rehearsals, the ensemble members have become a cohesive group with consistent musical expression in phrasing, style and presentation. This familiarization and camaraderie is cherished by the ensemble, which projects as a thoroughly enjoyable audience experience. The music ranges from danceable to popular to exciting, and has enjoyed wide acceptance for a broad range of performance experiences from jazz fests to weddings to public street fairs. VanPort Jazz has performed at venues such as the Newmark Theater at the Portland 5, the Laurelhurst Club, the Portland Noon Concert Series, Clark College, Pierson Air Museum, Clark County Fairgrounds, Leupke Center, Vancouver Recycled Arts Festival, and many private events.
