We've passed Fourth of July and summer wedding season is in full swing. The biggest benefit to a summer wedding, the warm weather, can also be its biggest obstacle, especially if you're planning an outdoor wedding. Here are some ways to keep you, your guests, and your wedding professionals cool.
Plan and Replan
It can't be said enough, if you're having an outdoor wedding you need to have a backup plan in case of rain or extreme heat. When viewing your wedding location make sure to think about things like shade for you, your guests, and your wedding entertainment. Talk to your wedding entertainment about their equipment and instruments and find out if extreme heat or humidity will be a problem.
Limit the Alcohol
No one is saying that you shouldn't have a drink or two on your wedding day, but keep in mind that alcohol on top of extreme heat and little food is a dangerous combination. It's very easy to become dehydrated in the summer. Make sure to drink plenty of water and other hydrating drinks and ask your bridal party and family to do the same. Make sure to provide a lot of soft drinks and water for your guests.
Say No to Bugs
The best time for a wedding in the summer in terms of heat is at dusk. Unfortunately, that's also the best time for mosquitos and other bugs. Consider providing bug repellant wipes for guests and limiting your own use of perfume or cologne.
Keep it Light
No one wants a big heavy meal in the summer. You want to feed your guests well, but keep in mind that eating well in the summer is different than eating well in the winter. You'll also want to keep the weather in mind if you'll be serving food outdoors.
Give 'em a Lift
In the summer more than ever you want to think about providing transportation for your wedding guests. An air-conditioned bus can allow guests to move from ceremony to reception and reception to hotel in comfort.
