On September 10th, 2017, one of the 9/11 Heroes Runs were held at the USS Midway in downtown San Diego. The event is a 5K race that honors all first responders, active duty, veterans, and families of the fallen. There are over fifty 9/11 Heroes Runs that take place nationwide each year and all are organized solely by volunteers. All proceeds from the Heroes Runs go to the Travis Manion Foundation, whose mission is to empower veterans and families of the fallen heroes to develop character in future generations.
For the 5k in San Diego, our client Ashley, shared the story about their event and booking with Redmond Ramos who acted as the Emcee for the day. Ashley said:
"Red lead the opening ceremonies, announced throughout the race, and conducted the awards ceremony for the event. He shared his story about the Travis Manion Foundation with our runners. He also encouraged runners at the start/finish line and presented our winners with medals after the race was completed.”
Redmond was a Navy corpsman, combat medic, serving with the Marines. He deployed to Afghanistan as a combat replacement for 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, where he stepped on an improvised explosive device and lost his left leg. Now he teaches employees how to reach their full potential using his own three step process. Redmond inspires the audience by telling his own personal story of military service and overcoming injury. Redmond competed on season 29 of The Amazing Race and also competed and won the inaugural season of "Triumph Games" on CBS.
A special thank you to 9/11 Heroes Run San Diego for sharing this real event story! #911heroesrun
