Strangled Darlings Americana Band from Rockville, MD

The sound of the band could be compared to Courtney Barnett, Shovels & Rope and Modest Mouse. We write groove driven, blues tinged tunes that bounce between traditional & modern. The music is carried by Jess on tenor bass & foot drums and George on mandolin. We play small & medium sized clubs across the US and a few festivals Bayjam (FL), Salmonfest (AK), Umbrella Festival (OR), True False Festival (MO), Clarendon Day (DC). Strangled Darlings tours the US full time but makes home bases in Rockville, MD and South Londonderry, Vermont. In June of 2014 the left their home base of Portland, OR to move into 20 foot RV to pursue the music careers full time. They play about 150 shows per year (including Alaska!) and fully support themselves with touring and sale of their four studio albums. Drawing inspiration from author William Faulkner in their name and Southern gothic style of folk-Americana, Strangled Darlings is roving partners/collaborators George Veech and Jess Anderly. The couple lives and observes life from the parking lot of America's largest retailer, Walmart. George has a degree in English Lit echoed in erudite subject matter and tight picking and plucking mandolin chops, while Jess – a classically-trained violinist whose primary instrument is now solid body custom cello – delivers counter melodies, lowend grooves and foot percussion, her husky-honeyed backing harmonies a tuneful counter to his tarnished tenor in their bouncy shambling, Southern gothic folk-Americana odes.
