I 1st established the Band as a quartet as "Driving Sideways" in 1986 playing the club's featuring Blues & Roots music including The Channel, Harper's Ferry, Sticky Mikes, Ed Burkes, City Side in Boston, The House of Blues, Johnny D's & Nightstage in Camebridge, & The Sit'n Bull Pub in Maynard to name a few. In the early 90's I revised the name to "BJ Magoon & Driving Sideways", and expanded the music to Americana, Roots-Country Rock, Swing, Beach, Blues & Soul w/an emphasis on Dancing! The lineup now varies from a quartet to septet depending on gig and/or budget. The Quartet lineup includes 2 guitars, bass &drums, the 5 piece lineup adds either keyboards or a female lead singer. The 6 piece lineup adds both keys & female singer. A tenor sax player, harmonica, fiddle or pedal steel guitar might be added for the 7 piece lineup. We play a variety of venues such as clubs, weddings, benifits, parties, dances, & summer concerts. We are in regular rotation at several venues, Strange Brew Tavern, Manchester, NH for 19 years, dance2swing's Sunday Swing Dance for 16 years. I personally ran the weekly Thursday night Blues Jam @ The Acton Jazz Cafe for 14 years. From the 1st lineup of "Driving Sideways" and the consecutive lineups we performed at the former Sit'n Bull Pub in Maynard for it's entire 22 year history. I also was the host & producer of a weekly Thursday night Blues Radio Show, "Blues On The Ceiling" on WICN 90.5 FM in Worcester from '87 into '95. Thru this involvement I was also an MC at Blues Festivals & Concerts & Shows and also asked to be a Judge at Boston area Blues Band Battles. We love to play!
