Bio Ben Woodruff is an Americana Singer/Songwriter. His grisly, soulful vocals and vast musical range enables him to play many genres including Country, Folk, Southern Rock, perfect to book for most any event. He is available to perform original music and/or exclusively covers as a solo artist, as a duo with Percussionist, Tyler Perry, and/or with his full band, Morgan's Road. Ben grew up in a gem of a city, more often noted as the exact half-way point between New York City and Miami, FL; Florence, South Carolina is small cultural center steeped with artists, musicians and all around, very good people. Like so many other incredibly talented artists who come from the American South; Ben was exposed to a diverse range of musical influences and sounds from the get go. By age 11, his older brother taught him how to play guitar and soon he found himself playing alongside and working at writing songs, good ones. As he describes it, "I wrote my first song when I was 5. It wasn't until I was 13 though, when a car accident took me out of sports, that I picked up a guitar. I grew up watching my brother teach himself how to play, so I did the same. People have always said I have a very original and gritty sound, which I think is the result of listening to the likes of Dave Matthews, Ray LaMontagne and Tracy Chapman during this time. My music is very personal and my lyrics always have significant meaning but the melodies tend to be lighter, more upbeat and easier to move to. I love that unique singer/songwriter style that gets inside you and becomes infectious. It makes you want to move, to lose yourself, to keep writing, playing and listening. I think part of what helps people connect with my songs is the emotion behind them. I tend to write during the highs and lows in my life as sort of an emotional release and the songs come fairly easily once I find the inspiration." Today, Ben's position is front and center on one of SC's hottest jam bands, Morgan's Road. His tremendous, grisly vocals, and vast range to sing and play most genres and styles from R&B, Scat, Funk, Rock, Blues, Country to Acoustic Rock, and Alternative-edgy sounds is something that time and again delivers and never disappoints. Ben has performed in front of festival crowds of over 23,000 people to small coffee shops and private events. Some quotes about Ben: "The strength and passion in his voice made me close my eyes and sway to the music. I hear so much emotion and personality in this vocal. It has such good control and just the right amount of "gravel"." "Very Matchbox Twenty, which I like. The singer has a great soulful voice." "The singer's voice fits perfectly with music that reminds driving an antique car on a big road on a sunny day." "Great style. Not pretentious. The vocals are strong, and yet heartfelt. The whole song is melodious, and imaginative. Also, very creative." Ben covers a wide range of genres and musical styles that lends himself well to most any event. He also often performs with Morgan's Road Percussionist, Tyler Perry (and is available to hire them as an acoustic duo).
