The River Tree Quartet is a classic jazz ensemble led by saxophonist, Jon Thompson. The quartet is comprised of some of the best names on the philadelphia music scene and have been playing professionally for about fifteen years. They all have performed with many greats in the musical spectrum (Matisyahu, The Machine, Bernie Worrell, Grover Washington, Richie Cole, Eric Alexander, Phil Roy.. to name a few) so these guys can really switch it up if they need to!
The members of the River Tree Quartet have performed nationally and internationally. They have had the opportunity to play venues such as the Kimmel Center, The Iridium, The Keswick, and Hines Hall. They have all played countless private parties, weddings, corporate events and cocktail hours.
The instrumentation of the River Tree Quartet is saxophone and flute, upright bass, drums, and guitar or piano. Although it is called a quartet, it can expand to include vocals, trumpet, trombone, sitar, tabla or percussion. The River Tree can also downsize to a duo or trio.
The River Tree Quartet typically plays classic, tasteful Jazz in the style of Stan Getz or 50's cool Jazz. The Saxophone is mellow and sweet with the compliment of a sophisticated and refined, rhythm section. Along with classic jazz they all do playful renditions of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Beck, and even the Grateful Dead. They also take requests!
"I have had the pleasure to hire Joe and Jon to put together ensembles ranging from trios to quintets, for events ranging from intimate parties in private homes to large fundraisers, from background dinner music to center-stage performance, with original music and also covering favorite jazz standards. I have also seen a number of these musicians in different combinations in public venues. Their professional integrity, flexibility and genuine approachable niceness equal their exceptional musicality. I would not hesitate to hire them again, and indeed plan to do so; I recommend them fully."
"Jonathan Thompson has helped provide the perfect music for our Annual Azalea Festival for several years. Professional and a pleasure to deal with, his talent shines. Highly recommend."
