Description

With over 100 gigs booked, including more than 50 weddings, and all with a perfect 5 Star overall rating, The Sound Effect's mix of rock, pop, motown, disco, soul, R&B, ballads and jazz standards is geared toward getting you and all of your guests out on the dance floor and keeping you dancing. Add energy, fun, sophistication and pizazz to your upcoming event through live music with The Sound Effect!

Our active library of music is filled with songs which people respond to on the dance floor. We constantly observe audience reaction to our music, and, if it doesn't keep the crowd on the dance floor, we pull it from the book and replace it with another crowd pleaser.

Want a second opinion? Here's what some past clients have said. "All of our guests had a terrific time on the dance floor. Even the people who usually do not dance or are shy about it got up to dance because of the music! Needless to say the song choices were right on target, the sound of the band was energizing, and the whole evening and event was memorable in part to the music!" And, "... the music was just wonderful! Had everyone up dancing, just as promised! We had so many compliments on your talents!" Also, "The band stayed energetic all night and got everyone on the dance floor. I had several guests (many of whom are music connoisseurs) comment on the high quality of the musicians and vocalists."

We're a 7-piece group, with male and female vocalists, a saxophonist, and a "locked-in" rhythm section consisting of a guitarist, keyboardist, bassist and drummer. Our mix of jazz and rock musicians gives us unparalleled flexibility and a rich collective music background.

To add a level of sophisticated ambience, The Sound Effect Jazz Quartet is frequently utilized during cocktails and dinner. Between the Jazz Quartet, the Sound Effect Band, and their provision of recorded music during intermissions, The Sound Effect provides a comprehensive solution to the musical needs of your event from beginning to end.

Whether you select items from our "Ala Carte" menu or go for an additional discount with a "Combination Platter", our goal is to provide you and your guests with a day of fond memories that will last a lifetime. We fully understand the stress that is encountered when undertaking a major event and want to work with you as much as possible ahead of time to ensure that the last thing you'll need to worry about during the event is the band. For events more than 50 miles from San Jose, a travel fee applies. Take a look at the "Quick Quotes" and you'll see that we have the most competitive pricing of any of the 5-star bands in the Bay Area.

THE SOUND EFFECT BAND (Ala Carte)

THE SOUND EFFECT JAZZ TRIO/QUARTET(Ala Carte)

For more subtle background music featuring jazz standards, The Sound Effect Trio or Quartet can provide your event with music during the cocktail hour and dinner, or when music is not the feature of your event. The trio consists of keyboard, bass and drums. The quartet adds a saxophone to the instrumentation.

TESTIMONIALS (from non-Gigmasters clients)

From John, the Groom of a San Francisco Wedding Reception (Platinum Package, September, 2008) The Sound Effect was everything we could ask for and more! Not only are they talented and well versed musicians, they conduct themselves with the utmost level of professionalism and customer service. A band plays a big role in the overall success of a wedding reception, and The Sound Effect delivered in every aspect. We received multiple compliments about the band from friends and family. Lastly, we would like to thank Scott for his exceptional customer service and attention to detail. You deal with many different vendors in planning a wedding and Scott was one of the most responsive and courteous, which makes a challenging process so much easier!

From Baldwin, the Groom at a San Francisco Wedding Reception (Platinum Package, July, 2007) We thought your band did a phenomenal job. We had a great time dancing to your music and would definitely recommend the band to anyone we know that is getting married. We appreciate how you were able to adapt to the chaotic timeline and do the MC-ing.

From Diklah & Shlomi, the Bride and Groom at a Palo Alto Wedding Reception (Jazz Trio, May, 2007) The Sound Effect trio played at our wedding, and proved to be an excellent choice. We met them during one of their rehearsals, and they all seemed very nice and professional. Throughout our communication with them, they were very responsive and very prompt.

Feedback

  • I just wanted to let you know that everyone was completely blown away by how great you guys were! Everyone loved the variety of music and how engaged the whole band was with the guests. I loved how you let Anthony (my little nephew) come up and play the drums. Again it is just a true testament to how friendly and great your band is. I loved how all of our guests were out on the dance floor until the last dance and I really appreciate you playing the songs we had requested. I can not emphasize how much people loved "Oh What a Night" and how many compliments we have received about you all. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart! -- Jessica B, Burlingame, CA, 7/16/2011
  • The Sound Effect is widely advertised as the #1 rated Gigmasters band and, having recently booked them for a relatively sizable outdoor wedding, I can tell you without a shred of doubt that the crown fits. I speak for everyone that was in attendance when I say their performance was out of this world! I've been told the success of a wedding can be measured by the amount of dancing, and let me tell you, this band will get people moving! They were a perfect mix of professionalism and fun-loving - they felt more like wedding guests having a blast than a hired band (and that's a good thing). For quality sound that's guaranteed to get your next event to its feet, call TSE! -- Andrew C, Los Altos Hills, CA, 5/21/2011
  • Booking The Sound Effect was the single best decision we made with respect to our wedding. We received tons of compliments about how great the band was and how much fun people had at our wedding. They were professional, flexible, and their talent is truly outstanding. Their vast array of songs meant the dance floor was packed all night with all age groups- everyone from our flower girls to Anna's 93 year old grandmother were dancing. -Anna&Bennett -- Anna B, San Francisco, CA, 4/30/2011
  • Thank you so much for playing at our wedding! The Sound Effect was amazing! We had 1 hour of jazz music and 2 hours of full band during the reception. The rendition of our first dance song (Lucky - Jason Mraz/Colbie Caillat) was beautiful! You guys were very accommodating (with the delay in our schedule), professional, talented, and definitely knew how to work the crowd. The dance floor was packed the whole night! Everyone had a wonderful time, and people kept raving about the band afterwards. We couldn't have asked for a better band! Scott was super easy to get in touch with before the wedding as well, always replying to my emails within a few hours. -- Cory P, Tiburon, CA, 6/19/2010
  • We were extremely pleased with the music at our reception. You guys sounded phenomenal and you kept the dance floor pumping all night long. We cannot thank you enough for the stellar performance. You have been extremely friendly and professional in all of our interactions. Thank you very much. and please don't hesistate to contact us if you need any client references. -- Michael G, San Luis Obispo, CA, 5/15/2010
  • We hired The Sound Effect to perform at our non-profit organization's 50th anniversary celebration. We wanted a band that could draw people of all ages to the dance floor, and The Sound Effect's talent and energy definitely made that happen! In the weeks and months leading up to the event (and even on the night itself!), we had some unique needs that Scott and the band were happy and eager to accommodate - in short, they did everything they could to ensure the night was as memorable as possible for us all. Professional, flexible and most important of all entertaining, I'd definitely recommend The Sound Effect for any event. -- Penny N, San Mateo, CA, 3/14/2010
  • The Sound Effect performed magnificently for our daughter's wedding! Our guests had a terrific time on the dance floor. Even people who are usually shy about dancing got up to dance because of the music! Needless to say the song choices were right on target, the sound of the band was energizing, and the whole evening and event was memorable! All of our guests came from out of town, many from out of state. BELIEVE ME, these people have been around and they ALL LOVED THE MUSIC from THE SOUND EFFECT! Thanks for all your help in arranging the music. I found your group to be professional, prompt, dressed appropriately, and a pleasure to work with. -- M W, Pacific Grove, CA, 7/4/2009
  • Thank you, Scott, and your amazing band - the music was just wonderful! Had everyone up dancing, just as you promised! We had so many compliments on your talents! And, wow, did my Irish friends smile when the Irish music started!!! My daughter and her new husband were thrilled with the way you played "their favorites" as were all their friends. And, you were so pleasant to work with! Very best wishes for continued success with your musical talents, you're terrific!! -- P P, Tiburon, CA, 11/9/2008
  • Our event went off great and I received many compliments on the band. We were holding a fundraising auction for a public elementary school, which has been typically mundane and ending immediately following the auction. Having The Sound Effect for our event this year turned the whole thing around and people danced until it was time to turn on the lights. They did a fantastic job setting the mood with a great selection of music while people were perusing the auction items, eating, talking, etc. Following the auction, we dimmed the lights, the band started back up, and the crowd on the dance floor grew. At the end, everybody still wanted more, even though the babysitters were working overtime. Thanks guys,... and Melissa, our event was a huge success and we hit the number we needed to fund the new playground, with revenue exceeding any previous fundraising effort for the school. Josh -- Josh R, Benicia, CA, 3/24/2007
  • The Sound Effect was great. The band was very professional and sounded great in the space provided. Our house wedding had 175 people, and every comment about the band was positive. I had several guests come up to me and tell me that it was such a refreshing change to have a band instead of a DJ, and it was fun to have them perform. We also had their jazz quartet perform after the ceremony which added so much to the ambiance of the evening.. The members were friendly, outgoing, and willing to chat with guests and that put them over the top for me. I'd reccomend them to anyone. -- Steve R, Davenport, CA, 5/31/2008
  • The Sound Effect performed at my wedding and they were simply awesome! I had several guests (many of whom are music connoisseurs) comment on the high quality of the musicians and vocalists. The band stayed energetic all night and got everyone on the dance floor. The entire evening went very smoothly! In addition, the band leader Scott was extremely responsive to all my requests related to scheduling, special songs, etc. It was a pleasure to work with them! I bet that in a couple years, the band will be very well-known in the Bay Area and it will be difficult to book with them -- grab them fast!!! -- Elizabeth C, San Francisco, CA, 10/28/2007
  • The Sound Effect helped our Anniversary Party come off above all expectations. Their range of music appealed to our diverse group of family and friends and they kept the dance floor hopping all night. Not only was their music outstanding, they looked like they were having a great time. During their breaks they mingled with the guests and we felt as though we had known them for years by the end of the night. We had many guest come up to us and ask us how we found such a great band. They were amazed to hear that we found them on the internet. So many of our guests were asking them about their availability that I think they nearly ran out of business cards. -- Trevor A, Hillsborough, CA, 10/10/2008
  • Responsive and organized! Enthusiastic! Accommodating and flexible! Talented and creative! A great mix of sophistication and fun. The Sound Effect is a wonderful group of musicians who made every effort to ensure that our wedding day went off exactly as we had envisioned it. They even learned a few of our favorite songs, including the first dance. We very much enjoyed working with the band, and Scott in particular made the entire process comfortable and stress free. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. -- Rik G, Petaluma, CA, 9/22/2007
  • this band was nothing less than awesome at our wedding reception. extremely versitile, they can play jazz quartet during dinner and then play all kinds of rock and pop - probably just about any song you could name. Scott is the leader of the band and is totally gracious and professional-thanks Scott. the Sound Effect is the best deal going, they are guaranteed to rock your party and they have enjoy themselves too which is nice to see. hire this band today, take it from the bride and groom you won't be disappointed! KK; 12/27/07 -- Laura F, San Jose, CA, 12/15/2007
  • Absolutely wonderful. All comments positive, very accomodating. Very sensitive to needs and requests, very talented and accomplished musicians. Everyone loved the band, and I would hire them again in a flash.Thank you. Scott Mann, Discovery Bay Yacht Club. -- Scott M, Discovery Bay, CA, 12/31/2007

I would reccomend The Sound Effect to anyone looking for great music, fun people, and true professionals. -- Bob H, Roseville, CA, 6/7/2008
  • The band was very professional and efficient in communications which was great. We asked them to make some changes to leads in some songs and asked them to learn one new song. They did it with ease. They were very accommodating to us. They showed up on time and looking great and played incredible music for our wedding. People commented on their music and style and passion. And although i never intend to have my own wedding again, we would absolutely recommend then! -- Arthur C, San Francisco, CA, 8/11/2007
  • There are no words to explain how pleased my wife and I were. Most importantly I had nothing but compliments from my guest about their performance and overall great attitudes. We felt like we've known The Sound Effect for years and had a great time partying with them. The night ended to fast. Thank you Sound Effect and God Bless. -- Errol R, Lathrop, CA, 7/7/2007
  • The Sound Effect played for my son's Barmitzvah. My son spent three weeks looking and listening to at least 100 bands on the internet. We picked The Sound Effect because they were better than all the other bands we listened to and fit within our budget. Both the kids and the adults had an amazing night. The Sound Effect and their music hit just the right tone for a magic evening with great dancing, fun and soul. They were so professional and such nice people. I have already heartily recommended them to several dear friends. We will use them again ourselves as soon as we can. They are great in every way. Scott Switzer, the band leader arranged and rehearsed some special songs for us. He was super accomadating and totally responsible and professional. Their two lead singers rock and so do their musicians. This band has heart, soul and spirit. I highly recommend The Sound Effect. -- Jeffrey B, San Francisco, CA, 6/16/2007
  • Our wedding was everything we wanted it to be, and The Sound Effect exceeded all of our expectations. It was great working with them before the event, and they went to great lengths to ensure that every detail was taken care of. A very easy vendor to work with. It was also great that they were able to provide music for the ceremony, cocktails, dinner and for terrific dancing afterwards. A true one-stop shop for music during the evening. The dance floor was full the whole evening, and every guest that mentioned the band had only great things to say about them. -- Larry A, Santa Clara, CA, 11/1/2008
  • We were so pleased with the Sound Effect. They were everything and more than we expected in a band. Our wedding was perfect and they were a hit with all of our guests, both old and young. They played a variety of songs and kept the dance floor full the entire night. Everyone commented on how great they were. We would recommend them to any future bride and groom. They'll make your day unique and fun! -- Ann R, San Jose, CA, 12/13/2008
  • The Sound Effect played for our son's Bar Mitzvah and wildly exceeded all of our expectations. They sound much better in person than there demos. They're also friendly and outgoing and don't have any musician's ego issues. I'd highly recommend them. -- Julie B, Santa Clara, CA, 10/18/2008
  • The Sound Effect was an exceptional addition to our reunion and made for a much more memorable event than a DJ would have done. -- Alice C, Saratoga, CA, 10/11/2008
  • Having live music, and especially choosing The Sound Effect, made for a lively and fun party. Thanks everyone. -- Jennie M, Hillsborough, CA, 10/25/2008
  • Our clients were bursting with good things to say about the band. Their music selection was just the right mix to keep everyone on the dance floor, and the band fed off of the energy of the dancers to keep everything going until the end. -- Charles B, Redwood City, CA, 11/8/2008
  • The Sound Effect provided a great atmosphere for celebrating all of the hard work of our staff during the past year. They assisted us with the timeline as we planned our event, and performed very well. They had people up on the dance floor who hadn't danced in years. We'd certainly recommend them and hope to use them again soon. -- Troy W, Stockton, CA, 12/5/2008
  • You can't go wrong in booking The Sound Effect for your event. This it the second time this year we've booked them for clients and they were extremely well satisfied in both cases. We'll continue to recommend them to our clients for future events when live music has been requested. -- Charles B, San Jose, CA, 12/6/2008
  • Booking The Sound Effect to play at our wedding was one of the best choices -- if not the best choice -- we made when planning our wedding. First, they are amazing to work with. Planning a wedding is hard work and they made a big part of it easy. Second, The Sound Effect is an absolutely great band. We did the "Gold" package -- and had the jazz quartet play during cocktails and dinner. When the full seven-piece band performed, everyone was dancing for the entire night. They knew exactly what songs to play when to keep everyone is engaged and dancing. They know how to keep a party going! Guests kept on complementing us on the band and telling us how fun the night was. -- Jacob H, Palo Alto, CA, 10/29/2011
  • We appreciated the willingness for the band to accommodate our song requests. They were very easy to work with and we received positive feedback from those who attended our party. -- Diane D, San Mateo, CA, 12/15/2011
