Fusing Latin, funk, reggae, and several other genres from around the globe, Karikatura is the perfect band for any occasion. With influences from South America, Eastern-Europe and the Caribbean, Karikatura forges a traveler's soundtrack filled with soulful vocals, infectious horns and evolving grooves that is guaranteed to get guests of all ages on the dance-floor.

With a mix of original material and covers hand-picked by the band and yourself, your event is sure to be a unique experience.

Since the beginning Karikatura has reveled in participating in the events that mark the most special moments in peoples lives. From Weddings to Birthdays to Bar Mitzvah's to Private parties and yes, even a joyful Funeral, Karikatura has found a special niche for themselves.

Born on the road, Karikatura hasn't stopped moving since. The band was conceived in South India in 2009 by Ukrainian-born, Brooklyn-bred guitarist, Dima Kay, at the end of a life-changing journey across three continents. He returned to his adopted hometown of NYC to make the group a reality, joining forces with like-minded musicians. They are equally at home performing at a packed festival in Belgium, a Manhattan jazz bistro, a Czech punk club or the subways of Sao Paolo.

This June, Karikatura will release its debut full-length album, Eyes Wide. The album will come out on Ropeadope Records; Karikatura is excited to join the Ropeadope family, which boasts recent Grammy winners Snarky Puppy and a magnificent lineage, including The Philadelphia Experiment, Antibalas, Spanish Harlem Orchestra and many more amazing artists.

Karikatura's debut EP Muzon launched the band on a DIY world tour for most of 2011, beginning with New Years in Japan and continuing with spring in Europe, where the band played twenty-one cities in nine countries. They were so warmly received that they returned to Europe later that year, playing 28 shows in 30 days, before closing out 2011 with a US tour from New York to New Orleans.

In 2012, Karikatura returned to Brooklyn to produce their second EP, Departures, which featured the single “Suitcase,” released with a remix by renowned dub producer Strikkly Vikkly (Victor Rice), and a music video. Before taking off for their third European tour, Karikatura spread their world-wandering sound around NYC, performing at venues such as SOBs, Nublu, Drom, Mehanata, Bembe and Spike Hill, for dancing crowds. They were also selected for the Music Under New York Program (MUNY), one of only 18 new acts chosen by the MTA out of 300 applicants for permits to perform in the subways of NYC. After just a few months with MUNY, Karikatura was invited to participate in the Red Bull Sounderground Festival in Sao Paulo, alongside other popular street music performers from around the world. They made a major impact on Brazilian audiences, instantly winning fans and building bonds for the future.

2014 has already brought Karikatura to new places, with a three-week tour down to Austin, Texas for SXSW, including shows throughout the Northeast, Midwest, and the Southeast of the US. The band made new fans, new friends and lots of music along the way.

Wherever Karikatura goes, they move people with honest songs, strong rhythms and creative horns. Karikatura brings the world to New York and New York to the world, capturing the present moment, with eyes and ears wide open. At the same time, the band faces the future, with bags packed for the next adventure.

“Gorgeously dark, terse horn arrangements, minor keys, and eerie gypsy chromatics along with a slinky Latin rock bounce, the Brooklyn band's music is danceable and also surprisingly deep.” - New York Music Daily

“A young group with a contagious sense of groove and lyricism, carried off with an enthusiastic ability.” - The Prague Post

“It reminds a lot of the more psychedelic, musically adventurous side of Gogol Bordello." - New York Music Daily

“This band got me with their first note.” - Sugarberry Photography, New Orleans

The band was a hit from the very beginning. Their energy was just amazing - through the roof - and it was so much more than we could have asked for. I've never been to that epic of a Hora, and they were more than willing to work with us on a number of special songs and actually MC'ing the wedding. This is not your typical wedding cover band, but they played some special requests mixed in with their songs. Everything was a blast to dance to, and numerous guests came up to us at the end asking about them. Would definitely recommend, especially for Jewish weddings!!!
