VOT is one of the world's most acclaimed ensembles dedicated to the performance of Sephardic music. With roots in the world music movement and early music, Voice of the Turtle also performs a variety of Jewish music as well as Medieval music.
With twelve albums to its credit, and a touring career spanning 35 years, three continents and thousands of performances, this spirited group brings to life the multi-faceted repertoire of the Iberian Jewish diaspora.
Using instruments from the Mediterranean and the Middle East, VOT's signature arrangements have delighted and inspired generations of audiences and fellow musicians the world over.
Voice of the Turtle is today a trio of musicians consisting of Lisle Kulbach, Ian Pomerantz, and Jay Rosenberg. Voice of the Turtle sings and plays the rich repertoire of the Sephardic Jews using traditional instruments such as the 'ud, guitar, violin, and percussion. In addition, contemporary Jewish music may add the clarinet and steel string guitar. Shawms, recorders, krumhorns and lutes round out the medieval offering.
