The Groove Party competes with on a regular basis in SE MI are in the $6500 - $10,000 range. 3 years ago due to the slow Michigan economy, we lowered our pricing, making us a great value for an upscale wedding band. There are bands that are less but many of those bands play mostly clubs and the occasional wedding.(90% of what we do are weddings and large corporate events.
Most of the lower priced bands specialize in one type of music for the most part. The Groove Party plays everything from Sinatra, to Classic Rock, Funk, Motown, 80's, as well as hits of today. Having the good fortune of all 8 members singing in the band gives us that ability to play such a wide variety. We have worked for organizations like GM, Ford, The PGA, Amway Corp, UAW, Major hospitals and charity groups, performed at Disney, worked for the Michigan Republican and Democratic Parties, (we are a non-partisan band..lol) and Michigan governors as well as hundreds of weddings. The core members have performed at well over 800 weddings and corporate events.
Unlike some bands that we compete with, we are a totally "live" band. A common practice for some bands, because of today's technology, is to play along with music tracks making them sound better than they really are. In some cases, some performers actually fake playing their instrument.. Faking aside, draw backs to that type of band are: they are tied to the playlist on their computer and don't have the ability to stretch out a song that's going over great or end one that isn't working...and more importantly be able to improvise and play a request that's not on that playlist. Some of these bands are in the $6500 to $8000 range and should be charging only $2000 or $3000 for their "canned" performance, but for the lay-person it's sometimes hard to detect. Not only are we live but you will see many members playing more than just one instrument throughout the night.
Another new practice in the wedding market is to offer "showcases" for brides and grooms. These showcases are basically given once a month and lineups are put together for each wedding, with no guarantee that the performers you saw at the showcase will actually be at your event...if any.Three of the core of The Groove Party have been together since 1994 (We were together for 10 years in another upscale wedding band that I was co-leader of).The Groove Party was established in Jan 2004 and after a few changes early on has been pretty much unchanged for the past 7 or 8 years. We replaced our guitar player last summer ( first major change in 7 years)
Pricing does not include rooms and travel (If the wedding is beyond one and a half hour travel time) but I try to minimize those costs by having members share rooms and only charging for the amount of gas used for each vehicle. Many bands ask for a per diem for each member plus separate rooms.
A full "deluxe" package includes: a live cocktail performer, a live dinner performer, actual DJ on the breaks, full MC services/planning with the client and the full band for dancing and runs $4800 for 1 cocktail and 1 dinner performer and slightly more for additional cocktail/dinner performers. If you were to hire cocktail/dinner/DJ performers outside of the band it would cost far more than the rates we charge. Since they are already on site and their equipment is there, it's far more cost effective. It is not uncommon to pay as much as $750 or more for those services.
The basic package for the full 8 piece band without the DJ and cocktail/dinner performers is $4300 and includes MC services/planning and MP3's for cocktails/dinner/breaks
For any package we are willing to learn songs for your important dances (bridal,father/daughter,mother/son)
I really don't like to scale down for a wedding because everyone sings ..but that is an option we can explore if need be ..Scaled down pricing starts at $3200.
If you are interested I can send additional emails with short MP3's showcasing each member singing and emails from some recent clients that we have worked for and a song list of some general ( not all) songs we do. We are constantly updating the list with new material.
Feel free to call me any time with any questions you may have.
