The Blue Drifters Acoustic Quartet is an Americana roots/variety musical ensemble on guitar, banjo, upright bass and fiddle. We play a wide variety of blues, bluegrass, top-40 hits from 60's-70's, swing, vintage country and Cajun. Everything from Stephen Foster, 1920's pop tunes, Jimmie Rodgers, CCR, John Denver, Neil Young, Lightin' Hopkins, Fats Domino, Dylan, Hank Williams, Doc Watson, Grateful Dead, David Allen Coe, Robert Johnson and anything we can craft into interesting exciting arrangements with trio harmonies and prodigious soloing on all four instruments.
The players include Boiled in Lead veteran fiddler David Stenshoel, likely the premier swing fiddler in metro area, and Irish, as well, bassist Jim Waldbillig who toured 25 years on bass with Sha Na Na, - however, was not in the Woodstock movie because he was 10 years old at the time), Rob Rasmussen, guitar and BDs founder Steven Earl Howard. lead vocals, guitar and banjo.
We can offer some of the newer jam-grass repertoire such Devil Makes 3 "Shades" and "Humdinger" by Old Crow. As needed, we can perform an entire bluegrass show of Flatt and Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Don Reno, Lonesome River Band, Stanley Bros., Osbornes, etc. if that's what you wish. I've discovered it's a little more balanced show if you mix in some CCR, Dylan, old blues and perhaps a few swing jazz tunes amongst all the bluegrass tunes. We're able to traverse a wide musical landscape with a full measure of technical and professional efficacy.
