The Austin Swing Orchestra is an 18-piece classic swing big band based in the "Live Music Capital of the World," Austin, TX. Armed with Central Texas' hottest & talented musicians and a large book of custom arrangements and transcriptions by trumpeter and ASO co-founder Danny Fratina, the band entertains crowds of all ages throughout the year with their energetic stage presence and danceable, hard-swinging renditions of some of the American Songbook's finest classics.
Over 5 years ago, what has become one of the most hard-swinging big bands was formed in Boston, MA by director and saxophonist Frank Hsieh, the Beantown Swing Orchestra. Comprised of Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory, and other grade-A Boston local musicians, the group has become the most sought after dance band in the Northeast.
In 2008, it even caught the attention of Hollywood when the band made an appearance in "My Best Friend's Girl," filming scenes with actors Kate Hudson, Dane Cook (see right) and Jason Biggs (see right). The Beantown Swing Orchestra recordings were also featured in the film score!
The band continues to perform actively in the Boston-NYC area at private parties, weddings, dances, galas, and more, and is fronted by American Idol Season 3 finalist, John Stevens.
Now, in 2011, several of the key members of the Beantown Swing Orchestra have landed in Texas upon graduating Berklee, and the fun continues in the South…
The Austin Swing Orchestra instrumentation includes vocals, alto sax (2), tenor sax (2), bari sax (1), trombone (3), bass trombone (1), trumpet (4), piano, upright bass, rhythm guitar, and drums.
